Today marks three years of continuous sobriety for me! I can hardly believe it.
It's only through regular meetings, my support network of AA friends, my sponsor, working the steps and my Higher Power that I have managed this. For anyone who is just starting out in sobriety that's how I have done it.
When I first came to AA I didn't think that it would be remotely possible for this alcoholic to even put a few weeks of sobriety together. I was a broken woman and in a complete mess. I was about to lose everything that really mattered to me. But, by taking it one day at a time I now have three years.
I now have a quality of life that I have never known before. I have a deep peace and a sense of optimism that was never there when I was drinking. I have my self-respect back, which is priceless. I am no longer afraid of everything and trying to piece together what happened when I was in black-out.
I am turning my life around and trying to help others and not be the self-centered, alcohol fueled person that I used to be. Life is great today!
If you are new to sobriety, or just unsure whether AA would work for you, just give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If this wonderful program of recovery can work for me, then it can work for you, too.
Thank you to everyone here on MIP for making this such a wonderful message board. I love you all.
Have a great day. You deserve it.
Carol
