Hi AA,

What is the link for the AA protocol for holding a meeting? That is, what do you read first, second, third, etc.

Thanks,

Nancy

It would depend on the type of meeting you wanted to hold right?  If it were just open discussion it would generally consist of openening with a prayer, usually serenity prayer.  Then, having someone read "how it works" Then a show of hands and sharing, stopping in the middle to anounce keeping with the tradition of each meeting being self supporing...pass the basket.  Then more sharing until 15 minutes left in which if not everyone has shared, you might ask if anyone who has not shared has a burning desire as defined as "if you don't share you will drink or hurt yourself or someone else"  If nobody answers that, maybe a couple more shares.  Then read "more about alcoholism." Then do chips for the first year markers...blah blah "if you haven't drank today give yourself and your higher power a hand." Then close with prayer of choice again.  Wham bam that's a meeting.  I've been to so many in 4 months, it's getting pretty routine...though in a good way.

It's up the Chair.

My HG consists of opening with a moment of silence, then serenity prayer, then How it works, then Traditions, then promises, then acceptance, then Daily Reflections. Unless it's a 12 & 12 or BB study, then it's moment of silence and serenity prayer only. We've got some that will include How it works, some that don't ever read acceptance, some that don't do the Daily Reflections and some that do the 9th step promises at the END of the meeting.

The only protocol AA has, that I am aware of is no cross talk & principals before personalities.
