I recieved this in an e-mail and thought it worth sharing.
A Member Shares... I'm Lucia, an alcoholic. "All I Needed to Know I learned In Kindergarten" was a best-selling book some years ago. In the same vein, everything I needed in AA was handed to me in my first sober year. This is not to say that I emerged from that year with everything wrapped up in a neat package. Hey, it's 52 sober years later and I ain't done yet. Rather, it's that the key to AA sobriety and to the happy, joyous and free life that is so much a part of the package was presented to me then and works still. Of course there have been changes in direction and depth, but the basics endure. What I learned in my AA "kindergarten" -- the Steps, meetings, fellowship, the Serenity Prayer, and One Day At A Time. And one more -- not so much learned as just gift from my Higher Power: trust. I, a world-class cynic the day before my first meeting, found myself believing people who said, "This is what we do. You can do it too." They were right.
Lovely!!! And so true.... all I ever needed to know was...
"you don't HAVE to drink" "there is a Higher Power and YOU are not IT" "If it's outside your hula hoop, it's none of your business" "stay in Today" "stop doing the same things over and over and expecting different results"
These things alone can change a life 180 degrees.
Thanks so much for the share, Jane. Helps me keep it simple.
