Going out of town

I'm new to this board and I joined after looking around for online resourses specifically because I am going out of town to visit my Grandmother. Two and a half years ago, when I was last there, I drank three gallons of bourbon over a very short period of time. I decided that nearly killing myself on that occasion - and the 37 years of drinking packed into 42 short years - qualified me for rehab.

I am going to the one place I have alway gone when any periods of dryness have ended. Those periods have always been very! brief and have never involved AA or desire on my part to address my addiction.

To prepare for this trip I have of course discussed this with my sponsor and
I have meeting lists/numbers etc. As I attend a 7am meeting daily - even 2 1/2 years sober - she believes that I should vary as little of my schedule as possible. I found a meeting at 8am and that is close enough! I will be starting the day as I mean to go on. The first thing on my To Do List will be checked off and then I am free to take care of business. This gives me the option of going to other meetings if I need to later in the day.

I have my numbers - my network and local. I have my Literature and all the tools i have learned in my time sober.

Anyway -- I wanted to give myself an online  place to go in case I need support. I can't cover my ass enough.

Most important I have my higher power - ready to go.

Hi Elizabeth,

Welcome to MIP. There are some great people here who all help to make it a special part of the 'net.

I hope that you have a wonderful visit with your grandmother. It sounds as if you have a great AA plan and that's essential.

Please keep posting and letting us know how things are going for you, won't you?

Take care,

Carol
