Each area varies on how they do this, the following is how my homegroup does them;
As Bill Sees It - is a book of selected writings by AA's co-Founder Bill Wilson (in my HG each person has the oppty to pick a writing they like, read it and share what it means to them) Big Book Meeting - is the 'study' of the Big Big Of Alcoholics Anonymous Closed Meeting - is for alcoholics only Discussion Meeting - the topic can be anything and anyone can share Open Meeting - anyone can attend Step Meeting - a particular step is 'studied' (my home group uses the month to determine what step i.e. October= Step 10) Tradition Meeting- is 'studying' the 12 Traditions 12&12 - is 'studying' the steps and/or the traditions
I'd suggest checking them all out......Keep us posted.
((hugs)))

Hi CJ. Yeah, check them all out, and you'll discover which groups you connect with best. In the beginning (yes, like back in Genesis. I had a bday last week), I hit them all, and kept going until I got to know the folks I was able to identify with the best. My best to you on your new journey, Chris
Try one of each. I particularly endorse the 12 step meetings (essential for learning how to take the steps) and the "As Bill sees it" meetings. I'd make a 12 step meeting a weekly regular meeting (if not homegroup). I had 2 12 step home groups for 2 years. If you don't care for the group, keep looking for a 12 step meeting that has that "cozy" feeling to you. I've always found those in churches for some reason. Maybe because it's where the older (40+ year) meetings are, and you'll find longtime sobriety there.
I call the "As Bill sees it" book AAs greatest hits as the passages are taken from all of the AA literature including the grapevine- AAs little news letter. In a traditional setup for an ABSI meeting, the leader picks a subject like acceptance and identifies the pages from the index that pertain to the subject. Then the group takes turns reading those passages and they have a discussion about it for the balance of the meeting. one word- Excellent! Get yourself an ABSI book and have your own meeting as a daily reader. It's a great repair manual when you have a tough day. Just scan the index to find you problem and read. Pretty soon you'll have the answer that you're looking for.
