Has anyone every tried using Campral?  It is a medication that is supposed to reduce alcohol cravings.  My doctor would like me to start taking it after seeing him tomorrow.  He said that it will not keep a person that is going to drink from drinking, but it does make it easier on someone who already had the will to quit.  And suggestions?  It's very expensive and seems a bit rediculous to me, but some swear by it.  Thanks again for all of the advice.

I personally don't see the point of spending the money and suffering the side effects if it won't "keep a person from drinking"......... Alcoholism is 3 fold - body, mind and spirit. If taking the med for the body helps you to get over the hump, then great, but if you don't work on the other 2 nothing will change and you will drink! The longer you go without a drink, the easier it becomes. Get to some meetings. Surround yourself with other alcoholics. Give yourself time, one day at a time,  you may find you don't  need/want  meds.

smileyou dont need a drug to stop drinking all you need is the desire to stop, a doctor unfortuneately wouldnt take any notice of that as they are always handing out scripts if they can manage to ,lets face it the quicker they can make there fortune, then the quicker they can do all there brick paving around the house lol.

We can't crave alcohol unless we first put it in the body.

I'm not sure I understand that one?? I do crave alcohol. Just as other people crave their addictions after becoming sober. I do agree though, that this needs to be done within myself rather than with the help of any more medication. I just figured that I would ask because some people swear by it. Thanks for the comments!

Sounds just like when you want to quit smoking. For me, no matter what I tried in the past...patches, meds, or whatever, unless you have the desire to quit something, noi matter what product we use it wont work! Youre getting there!!!

As an alcoholic, I may desire alcohol- I may think about a drink; but there is no way I can crave alcohol unless I pick up the first drink and start the physical allergy. Then the mental obsession kicks in.

I never wanted a drink until I had a drink.

Well, it's past the tomorrow. So I'm curious. Are you talking the new drug?

Personally I wouldn't. Doesn't make sense to take a drug that may or may not help you and you may or may not get hooked on.

Oh what a vicious web we weave!

Have a great sober day!

Well here's that story.  I had to go all the way to the in-patient hopspital that I was at, to get the samples and the new script from the Doctor.  He gave me the date and time that I needed to pick them up.  When I got there, he had already left for the day.  They asked me to come back the next morning.  I told them no.  I pay a lot of money to them for the treatment program they want me to be apart of.  If it's not important enough for the Doctor to be there, it's not worth spending the gas or paying the money.  So, I told them to forget about it all.  I was very much pissed to be honest....it's a long drive!  So anyway, no meds and I'm doing good.  I'll try and post an update tonight after work.  Thanks for everything!
