Doctors Arrrrgggg!

I have had this horrible ear ache for over a week now.  Last week i went to my regular doctor and he sent me to an ear, nose throat specialist.  Well he said he didnt see anything and he yelled at me for using qtips!! And then dismissed me.
Well this weekend was horrible pain.  Today was the worst and now the other ear is hurting and I have a sore throat and larengitus.  So I went to one of those "doc in a box" places.  And what a wonderful doctor!!  She was like "OH my God!, your ears are full of mucus and your throat is horrible red!!"  Finally a doc who really cares!!  And I am proud of myself cause I wanted pain medicine but afraid of it, so she had the perfect solution.  It is an ear drop that I can use every hour and it numbs the inner ear.  It is working a little, still a little pain but not the unbearable pain I had before.  Well good news too, cause they have a regular family physician next door and they recommended I stop seeing my regular doc and sign on with them so I am going to tomorrow.
Im glad I didnt just lie down and take the pain and continued action by seeking an answer.

Awesome, Allison!! Just because we are alcoholics does not mean we are exempt from any and all pain-relieving medical care. Sounds like that doctor is a very bright one, and kudos to you for lokking around until you found what you needed.

I hope your infection goes away soon, and that you will be feeling better. Meantime, cuddle up and keep those fluids going down, and we are always here to sympathize with you and try to cheer you up!

I certainly know how you feel. I have a whole 'team' of doctors that I have to see on a regular basis. Sometimes I think they lose sight. My Neurologist, who I've been seeing since 2004 always tries to write me a 'script for pain. And I always say to him, "did you forget who you're talking to?! Helllooooo! Alcoholic here! Geesh! "

Good for you on taking the bull by the horns

Feel better soon. An earache is the worst pain (besides a toothache) - OUCH

(((hugs)))

when a doctor sends you to a specialist its either a serious need or the doctor was lazy that day a couldnt be bothered doing much that day in his office.
ive had ears problems for years.
the best way for me to start an ear ache.
1, use the same finger to finger both ears.
2, roll my head back in the shower when washing hair, i tilt my head forward now.
3, sticking things in my ear to stop a tickle, which damages the ear canal, and causes an infection.
4, use a cotton bud which pushes all the wax up against the drum.
so when i dont do these 4 things i dont have any aches for a long period and sometimes a year. cheers peter.smile
