Whew rough day at work..without going into too much detail, I work in finance and the mkt. was bad today but I took some profits on up positions. So I mad e some change, but with the irregular sleep, I was in the office at 7 am(45 min commute) and left at 6 30 pm. A nice icy cold beer would've hit the spot and honestly, I was close, but I drank my usual can of coke. After 18 days the urge is still there and I'm afraid I'm gonna break down and give in soon. The irregular sleep is the worst part. I'm waking up between 4 30- 4 45 am and I try to catch a few more zzz's but I'm wide awake at 6 am. I try to sleep by 11 pm but knock out at 2 30 am. I NEVER had this problem when I drank
Hi Mike, I thought the same thing about not having a sleeping problem when I drank but I had other ones that made not sleeping look real good.
We really do not sleep when we are drunk either. Our bodies do not get rest while passed out.
I hope you can find other ways to cope and not pick up.
There must be reasons you decided to quit. Can you tap into those?
You are doing so well. I hope that you do not get lured back into drinking. I know today I was working in the garden with my oldest son and my other (middle)sons dog got hurt and with a Ty Kwon Do tournament for my granddaughter to go to plus supper and my twin grand sons being overtired from day care and my oldest granddaughter having something at school her mom needed to get to and all of us scrambling having just an hour to get everyone fed and my middle son wanting me to take him to the vet with his dog about 45 mintues away and pay for it on top I felt like I could calve it all and drink on the way and say to hec with it.
Instead I put gas in my sons car to take the dog himself and I paid for the meds.
It felt so good to do what was right and not fall into needing a drink that would ruin so much for me. I shook it off and I feel wonderful and it all worked out beautifully.
I hope you can enjoy your work and take it easy in all of it. I am pulling for you dear soul, Rosie
Hi Mike, I find that when I wake up I feel worse than when I drank, granted its only 4 days now but I feel tired and miserable, but I am not going to let that get me down, because people like Rosie keep me going!! Please hang in there. Take care - Deirdre
Just hang in there and don't quit before the miracle happens.
My sleep was really bad for a few weeks when I stopped drinking. I had drank that much for so many years that I wasn't used to getting natural sleep any more. But, it will come right for you.
For me, I couldn't have stayed sober without getting to as many meetings as I could and listening to what was being said. I loved what everyone had to say and how good they sounded. I wanted some of that for me.
And, as I had always made the time to drink, so I could always find the time to get to a meeting.
Please keep posting and sharing with us all how it's going for you, won't you? We're all here to help each other.
Take care,
Carol

Its true, did we really ever fall asleep or just pass out!!!
The urge may be there for a while to have a nice cold beverage, but would it be only one? I had to ask for the desire to quit drinking daily, but the minute or by the hour. Eventually, it magically went away. Hopefully youre making time to hit meetings...90 meetings in 90 days....At first I would go 2-3 times a day just to keep sober. If you really want to stay sober, it will happen! We can make up all kinds of excuses to drink...bad day at work, good day at work, happy, sad, its my birthday or its your birthday!!!!!!
Hang in there!

Hi Mike, It takes the body clock a long time to adjust to sleeping right. I had felt worse also this past week in the morning and still kind of do with nightmares of drinking and really feeling like I had and was appalled to wake up and thank God that it was a nightmare.
Our bodies, minds, and souls needs time to adjust and as we read things of health and really want those things for ourselves we will not have the urge for a quick fix that only keeps us from what we deserve in life.
I am pulling for you Mike. As I know are the rest of these wonderful people here. Rosie
Hi Mike, I wanted to let you know also that when you are sleep deprived that it is easy to give in to drinking. It will creates doubts in your mind about being sober.
its 12 17 pm and i could pass out right now. day 19 btw. Found a meeting 5 blocks away open like 10 hours. will check it out after work. don't know if any noticed my 1st couple posts, but im taking alprazolam (xanax) for anxiety. maybe thats why the sleep problems. When i would sleep drunk, in the middle of the night I would be so dehydrated I would kill a 2 liter soda in 5 minutes. When I woke, my stomach was gross and swishy, but no hangover.
Its tough but believe it or not getting a little easier :)
Hi Mike, Xanax is like a drink to an alcoholic. So be careful. It can keep you in the frame to drink.
I am glad you got 19 days and feel you are doing a great job. Easy does it and enjoy the freedom. I would say I had a monkey on my back and my sister says it is more like a gorilla. She is right!
