Hello everyone, my name is Rebecca. I need to re-establish my sobriety date as 08-14-08. So, I only have 2 days of consistent sobriety now. I want to quit drinking, but have been using alcohol to avoid the discomfort of the withdrawl symptoms. Yesterday I did go out and purchase the herb Kudzu and some amino acid supplements to help with the withdrawl. I am greatful today to be sober and to have an online group to attend.
Welcome to MIP. This is a great forum and it heps me so much.
Well done on two days of sobriety. That's great. It's baby steps at the very beginning.
For this alcoholic, I couldn't keep sober without going to my meetings, speaking daily with at least one other recovering alcoholic and working the steps.
Please keep posting and letting us know how things are going for you, won't you? Just hang in there and it will get better for you.
Take care,
Carol

Hi Rebecca! I am new to these forums, and your post is the first one I read.
Congratulations on two days!! That's totally huge, and you deserve a big electronic high-five for your accomplishment.
The way I slid into alcoholism was by treating my hangovers with the "hair of the dog." It worked like nothing else, but of course it only compounded my problems.
Then, like you, when I tried to get sober I discovered that my addiction had taken hold of my body much more than I could have ever imagined. It's really rough, and my heart is with you.
One thing I'd like to suggest--I found it helpful, especially for my nausea, to eat bananas and drink gatorade. The bananas have potassium, which your body has been depleated of and which will help all around--not to mention they're relatively easy on your tummy and a good source of nutrition, which if you're like I was, you definitely need. Gatorade or other sports drinks will just be more effective than water in getting your electrolytes back up.
I didn't know it until I went to treatment, but alcohol withdrawal is incredibly dangerous. So please, if you start feeling scared for your wellbeing, get medical help right away.
Best of luck and lots of love! I look forward to hearing how you're doing.
I am proud of you for taking the reigns and reaching out right now. It sucks to GET sober, but if you get through these rough days, you will have a choice, and will never HAVE to go through this again. God, I pray that I don't ever have to go through it again either. And you have helped me to live sober yet one more day. Thank you, and stick around!!

Thanks for the note! I have been going to AA, but REALLY like the online forum/meetings here b/c when I feel like I want to drink, I get online and come to Miracles In Progress. You mentioned "Getting sober is rough." Yes, I know! How long does this 'rough period last?' Would really like to know what to expect while detoxing at home. It's been 4 days no since my last drink, and my head is just now beginning to feel "less cloudy."
Have a great day! Oh yes....it is good to be sober today. Rebecca
hello rebecca, my name is peter if your able to go to a detox unit as they are called here in australia, they are like mini hospitals usually run by exalkies, and they are allowed to follow the same procedures as hospitals have, with all the support of AA there as well, they also have a fully qualified nurse in them and connections to doctors that work in con junction with the detox unit, over here in australia you stay in one for 5 days and if a person doesnt think they have the ability to handle sobriety after the 5 days they are referred to a rehab. rehabs are drug free unless you already happen to be on medication for something else. rehabs generally are a long way away from pubs and other places to get booze which is what i did to get the sobriety ball rolling. however if you can do it by yourself , dont sit around by yourself trying to get your body together, go to a meeting and arm yourself with a meetings book that can fit into a pocket. dont feel like an idiot by going to many meetings a week as some members feel at the start, just go its for you, later on you will be able to help others and that will improve your life immensly cheers peter.
