Need Help - My 16 yo teen needs an AA group
Permalink

Hi everyone. I'm confused. My 16 year old so will be returning home next week after 5 months in a teen wilderness rehab program. He'll be needing and wanting to attend an AA group. My questions:

1. As a teen, can he attend a regular AA meeting or will he have attend another type for teens?

2. Where can I go to find out where one is?

I live in San Mateo, CA

Thank you in advance for your help.

1) yes he can attend regular meetings and yes a  lot of places have programs specifically for teens

2) http://www.aa-san-mateo.org/     or check the white pages of your phone book.

Hi Fogdodger,

As Doll said, there are young people's meetings near where you live, but yes, he absoutely would be welcomed in the regular meetings also.  I have sat in meetings with people from all ages, teens up to 70's.

Where I live there is also INCYPAA (Convention of Young People in AA) and in California it's ACYPAA.  http://www.acypaa2009.org/   They have scheduled events for young people of all ages (mostly youth) during the year.

The scheduled events offered there are not a subsitute for going to meetings in between the events, but an enhancement and a social event.

The link Doll sent you has regular meetings and Young People's meetings.

If you are not in Al-non, you might consider attending meetings also.  http://www.ncwsa.org/district-13.html    These meetings are for the family of an alcoholic.

There is also a website for Alanon here, http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=42727  Message Board

And a family & teens site:
http://www.12stepforums.net/teens.html    Main page

http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=42762  Message Board

http://www.12stepforums.net/chatroom4.html  Chat Room

I hope these help.

Love & Hugs,
Stephanie
