"Not ignorance, but ignorance of ignorance is the death of knowledge." --Alfred North Whitehead
How little I understood when I was living as an alcoholic. How little I wanted to know. Ignorance was bliss in my addiction. And the real tragedy was that I was ignorant of the extent of my ignorance! I had no idea how serious my alcoholism was, how pervasive in all areas of my life it had developed, how destructive and negative I had become until I was made to "see" reality in treatment. Reluctantly I opened my eyes to see my ignorance and I knew I needed to change my attitude if I was to recover.
The enemy of the spiritual life is ignorance because it stops us from realizing that the strength and healing power of spirituality has been given by God -- all we need do is discover it and appreciate it.
I pray that I and others will have the courage to confront the ignorance in my life.

How many times I was in denial, or ignorance about my alcoholism....I so didnt want to quit and leave behind the safety net which I thought was alcohol. Until I became sober, my eyes and mind and even my heart were so closed to everything. If I had a problem, I would drown myself in the booze only to create an even bigger problem.
Today, with the help of AA and a HP, I can see what a delusion I was living in. I wasnt living or enjoying life, but going through the motions just to get by. Today, I dont have to worry about past mistakes, lies Ive told myself or others....All the bad stuff that comes with a mind full of booze!

Thankyou for the light & the continuous sharing you bring to the MIP board, Lani. So special. I hold a candle to you & hope that I may bring more service in the future too. I'm back from a fantastic 2wk experience with lots of spiritual gifts & my program even more bedded in. There is nothing in this world that gives succour & guidance quite like AA does. It's such a miracle to be a part of & I am truly grateful. God bless everyone here. Keep coming back, Daniella x
