Not to overwhelm anyone, but my spouse is an alcoholic with Attention Deficit Disorder running in his family.  I particularly found this website helpful:   www.help4adhd.org    Click on living with ADHD.   Also CHADD has a website, too.

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 35, about a year after I got sober. When I drank, the hyperactivity was not as noticable. Once I stopped self-medicating, it was quite a shock.

Mind you, the diagnosis didn't upset me much. It was more of an "Ah-ha" moment. Adult ADHD is not as limiting as childhood ADHD. As an adult, you are better able to recognize and manage your symptoms. And, we are very dynamic people also. I not only accept it, I wouldn't change it if I could.
