Jenny, I really appreciate your honesty & I admire the courage it has taken you to share here, even online & anonymously. It's an amazing beginning for you & of course it's good that you're here. Even whilst drinking. Even though this is not strictly speaking affiliated with an AA meeting, as AA members we're still gathered here to share our stories & support with each other.

A few first principles for you to know is that One, as a newcomer You are the most important person here.. Two, Your being here helps others as we have to share & give of our sobriety in order to keep it & Three, you're not a bad person trying to be good you're a sick person trying to get well. We understand the illness & it isn't your fault that you're powerless. But, you are responsible re what you want to do about it.

This is where we can can help each other. There's no need for you to feel embarressed though equally it's human nature to & I would too if I was drinking today & asking for help like in my earlier days. In my last days of drinking I stopped feeling embarressed. I was so grateful that AA was there for me to reach out to. I hope you can feel better & start to do the same too.

Members here all have a variety of days of sobriety between us. I've been in AA for 21mths & sober 19mths. Proof that it works if you work it ;) It's a good life after alcohol. Keep sharing where you're at. We're all here to help each other, Danielle x

This one is more simple:

the only requirement for membership is an honest desire to stop drinking

I too welcome you here, Jenny. Many folks here stumbled upon the site because they were in the same position you are in now. Those of us who are sober today here STAY here because we care about you, and about anyone who feels like we did. We fellow alcoholics know the pain like no one else could understand, and we want to share the way out. That is why we are here. For you.

The Big Book ("Alcoholics Anonymous") says, in regard to helping others, that we are all like survivors of a great ship wreck. But after the storm has subsided, we who have survived don't soon forget the experience, and we are eager to help try to save the next person from disaster.

Jenny, none of us came in here sober. It took me 2 years of going to meetings to "get it".
I was "too smart" for this simple program. It's one of duplication. "If you want what we have, and are willing to go to any length to get it" , then all you need to do is follow the footsteps of 10's of millions of others that have gotten and stayed sober in AA. We all walk the same path and we literaly hold hands doing it.

We have another Jen, that just came in about 3 months ago and is staying sober, I'm kinda hoping that see'll chime in here. Another Jen "Doll" is on vacation at the beach for "Bike Week" but she'll post in here shortly. Keep coming back, it works if you work it.

Jenny,
Child, you are always welcomed!!!!! ANYONE/EVERYONE is welcomed who has the desire
to become sober.
I felt like an interloper when I came upon this site. It was another's drinking problem
that led me hear. At first I simply read, then slowly began to post/ask questions. I was
graciously welcomed.
Joni is correct. It is a disease, something I originally thought was just a bunch of hooey.
Yet overtime, there has been soooo much learned. And I have changed, as well!!!!
Some illnesses, one can treat on their own. This is NOT one. Those who sought help
for alcoholism have learned how they can control it. The "doctor" is always in, however,
the patient can't be treated unless he/she takes the steps to seek the help and accept the
"treatment."
To me it seems you already know that you need the help. You have reached out to others that have struggle with the same. All with sage advice; all with stories of struggle;
all welcoming you; all will support you. They know the feelings, ect.
The only thing that they cannot do for you is make the choice whether or not to truly
learn how to become sober.
We'll be here for you with open arms to help you anyway we can. Wishing you well.
Wanda

Jenny,

As you can see, you are welcomed with open arms, no matter what condition you are in.  When I came here 3 short months ago, I was a mess, and I believed that I didn't deserve to be around, let alone deserve to have people listen to me and help me.  I am starting to believe that I deserve it, and you do, too.  The fact that you are posting here -- sober or not -- is a great sign that you want help.  If you stick around, you will get it here, and in the halls of AA.  Welcome.  Please keep posting and let these wonderful folks help you.

Jen

If actually being successful at sobriety were a requirement to be here I would have had my ass kicked outta here a long time ago.

Just keep hanging around and things will get better. I use this place like diary where I chronicle my thoughts and feelings...and I think of the other people here as voices in my head, kind of like I'm a schizophrenic. But rather then tell me to do bad things like shoot people or light fires these voices give me good advice!

Also, don't be afraid to post risque pictures of yourself...I've heard that really helps with the healing process =)

At first I thought that said "dairy" and for some reason it seemed pretty funny. The possibilities seemed endless.

I really need to stop skimming.

Where the heck did Jen VEr.4 get off to? You can never have too many Jens around this place!

Hey Jenny- you hanging in there? Tipsy and I are going to defame each other's lack of character until you come back and tell us you're hanging in there.

Seriously, though- come on back and let us know you're hanging in there, would you? (Did I just channel Quetzal for a teensy bit?)confusedconfusedconfusedweirdface
