"And tho I'd been bouncing on and off the wagon for a few years, unable to give up booze for more than a few weeks (with and without the help of other human beings). I didn't pick up a drink.  Which seemed- to one who'd studied positivism and the philosophy of science in college- a psychological payoff to the dumb process of getting on my knees twice a day to talk to myself.  One MIT trained scientist told me she prayed to her "sober self"- a palatable concept for the agnostic I was. But if you are in a frame of mind gloomy enuf to refuse prayer... nothing satisfies like a dark poem.."

So here it is:    "And I waited with anxious soul for Romeo to descend from the clouds, a satin Romeo singing of love, while backstage a dejected electrician waits with his finger on the button to turn off the moon...smile.gif"

Sobriety doesn't exempt me from all kinds of sometimes self absorbed lunacy.  Who knew?       Any way- I also have a bad cold, which might be strep, given how my throat feels.....     Beach Girl

Yes I have. It was a very expensive bike in the 50's/60's. It was the fastest motorcycle in the world at that time and was owned by princes and kings. I'll be in the Isle of Mann in a couple weeks watching the 101st running of the Tourist Trophy race. It's the fulfillment of a childhood dream, ever since I started reading motorcycle magazines. That race, up until the late 60's, determined the world champion road racer. We'll be staying on SE coast in the town of Port Erin. smile.gif Where is tuggboart, I need to rubbing this in. Btw, what is this "humble side" you speak of? weirdface

Re: where is this humble side- good point. Feeling sick makes me feel humble- I slept nonstop, til this AM, after my last post. I am hearing what you are suggesting- I really am. And just as a by the way- folksinger Richard Thompson (I think that's his name) did a wonderful song about the Vincent. BG

BG, I was joking about my lack of humility. I'll look for the song. There's not many (enough) songs about motorcycling. The one that comes to mind is "I don't want a pickle, I just want to ride my motorcicle"- Arlo Guthrie (I think) smile.gif Bob Segar has a nice one called "Roll Away".
