One of the gals in my HG had 14 months sober, she went out for about 8-10 hours the other day. She called me last night to tell me and said she 'pounded' drinks like she was trying to make up for lost time (her words). I think she said this was Monday night. Anyway as of yesterday she still felt hungover and sick to her stomach. EVERYTHING she tried to eat or drink (even water) "ran straight through her" and that she was continueing to experience extreme nausea. She wanted to know if she could possibly be experiencing withdrawal? or was she still hungover from 3-4 days prior?

She kept saying 'it can't be withdrawal cuz I been sober over a year and it was only a few hours, not days, weeks, months, years....'.

I have no experience or knowledge regarding this........So, thought I'd do what I always do and put out there for you all to respond to.

((hugs))

Im thinking "emotional hangover" more than anything! Or alcohol poisoning!!!!!

I have a friend who tried to combat her "hangover" by drinking a ton of fluids! Almost drowned herself and depleted alot of electrolytes etc......Ended up in the ER than the psych ward!!!!

At this point she's probably dehydrated!!!!

Glad she's back!

Alcohol poisoning... yup, sounds about right to me. Her body was definitely no longer used to having alcohol in it, and I am sure her organs were crying out in pain. I can relate to her experience, of relapsing and being horribly ill for days. Hope she is getting enough salts and sugars in her, and good nutirents like protein and complex carbs.

Hope she feels better soon.

I believe that for the first couple of days or so after being abused with alcohol or drugs, our bodys disfunction is due to detoxification.  After that, we have to remember how long an external cut or bruise takes to heal completely, and how sensitive that area can be until the healing is complete.

Our internal workings are much the same, and the physical recovery part depends on the extent of the damage.  I also can state from experience, that both external and internal healing tend to take a little longer as we grow older.

Alcohol Poisoning. The cruelist part of our disease, the fluctuation of our liver functions, is that our liver can shut down any time and simply not proccess alcohol out of our bodies, or slow down dramatically. That's why, during the later stage of our drinking, it was unpredictable how much we could drink before getting totally wiped out. Some nights I could drink anyone under the table and then drive home, the next night 6 beers in 3 hours and I couldn't walk/talk straight.

I got alcohol poisoning a couple of times. The last time it took 2 weeks to get over. She needs to go on a liqiud diet of really bland (ensure) stuff for a week. Try a slice of toast and jam (no butter). I couldn't get off the couch for a week that last time.
