i have had some disturbing and unwanted thoughts that will not go away, i pray and still they come back, i have close to 20 years sobriety, and have not had this problem before, am wondering if anybody has experienced this before. and what their solution is to get rid of the thoughts.
I have OCD and have noticed that the longer I stay sober the more 'in my face' it has become, but not to a disabling point. Should it ever get to that point I WILL be seeking professional help.
Please keep us posted .......
Prayers going up for you.

Counseling has helped me tremendously with sick cyclic thinking. There are many great therapists out there to utilize. Hope you can find someone you are comfortable with to help you. Maybe you just need to "unload" this stuff?
Welcome!!!

Welcome...Great job on 20 years! Wow! I have no further suggestions but I do know that while I was drinking I could never remember my dreams. Now they are vivid and interesting. Almost look forward to going to sleep to see what adventures I can encounter!!! L

The counselor I went to talked to me alot about changing my internal dialog. It takes alot of work but it can happen google it or check out the self help section of a book store
Good luck

Welcome to MIP, Runfast. I definitely wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquistion there lol I'm sorry to hear that you've been suffering some disturbing thoughts. I'd go along with looking into getting professional help with these too. It seems there's messages & learnings coming through for you & I hope you can gain lots in exploring them & revealing more for yourself about where you've been & where you want to go. These thoughts don't sound like straight up defects for Steps 6&7 removal. Be kind with yourself & give yourself a chance at dealing with them in depth before moving on. Good luck & well done in your sobriety. I hope you'll stay & share with us some more. God bless you. Danielle x

hey thanks for some of the suggestions, ya with the long term sobriety i have i now know when something is not right with me, my thinking has been a little off quilter due to a character defect iam dealing with, you could say a bad habit iam trying to break, i have tried counseling before could not stand it ,so i liked the suggestion of trying to change my internal dialog, i just have to change my thinking and not let shitty thoughts enter my mind, it seems to work,, this is nothing compared to getting sober, just another little bump in my sobriety, that i have faith i will get over, anyways thanks everyone
This is most likely a byproduct of either depression, anxiety, or isolation. The best way to deal with this is to occupy your time with positive things that make you happy. If you are happy and social, then this will go away. The more time you spend with other people or doing these that take your mind off of your own problems, then your mind will regenerate with new thoughts that take the place of them. If you spend a lot of time on your own, it is harder to get over these types of thoughts. If you are by yourself late at night, it might be best to try reading a book or watching a movie, or just doing something different that makes you happy to get into into different thought patterns. Try to immerse yourself in activities or surroundings that put your mind at ease and help you out of this thinking.
