Before and after pics......the purpose of vinyl siding was to upgrade/update/make look better, the house! It is an old house! Asked the guy about the permit like you said, his response "you don't need to worry about that." Since I had no knowledgable answer to that, I didn't pursue it, YET!
Pretty much ALL the windows look like this, some not quite as bad (they don't have nails). Everything else that needed fixing was filled in with caulk!
ARRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!
Got a guy from my HG coming out tomorrow to take a look......
"Craftsman" is Not a word that I would use to describe those workers. Doll, in my city, you have to have a contractors license and a permit to paint!
below is from the State of South Carolina licensing board. Did your contract exceed $5k? If so then the business requires a contractors license. I'd bet lunch that they don't have one.
No entity or individual may practice as a contractor by performing or offering to perform contracting work for which the total cost of construction is greater than five thousand dollars
I haven't been able to find out yet if he has a contractors license. Had no luck in that dept. Had folks at the LLR supposed to call me back.
Yep. The estimate he wrote me is for $5300.00. I never signed a contract.
Here's some more, so I can have a good laugh (until this is resolved) instead of crying.......keep in mind the windows are old so they have some dark paint on them, but they weren't bent, they weren't cut and check out how they caulked them all in........plus, he's trying to convince me my porch post (last pic) was like this already. It wasn't!
Thank you, HP, for AA, MIP and the wonderful people here.
Dean, you have kept me from losing my mind over this. Many thanks and blessings to you.
You're welcome Doll. Hopefully you'll find sollutions to those issues. It's not nice to feel like you didn't get a good job. Nobody likes that. Have a nice weekend, get out and enjoy some spring weather
Doll, Pretty soon I can bet your house will look as great as Joni's kitchen!!!! Keeping you in my prayers and knowing all of this will work out!!!
Hang in there!!!!! L

Hi Jen, Sorry you have had to go through all of this. I shook my head and smiled as your pics. pretty much remind me of the house I live in. The difference being, I rent. My credentials as a carpenter/home inspector are limited-none. LOL HOWEVER, it does take a "brain surgeon" to tell this guy isn't qualified to touch tools. The porch post....even in a picture.....those look to me as recently-new "cut" marks/scars. And I KNOW I can caulk better than that! Didn't quite understand the reasoning for the nail in the (I think that's what one calls it) sash. Another additional route you may consider is to call your state's Attorney General. Here in Illinois since ours has been in office (Lisa Madigan) she has shut down or heavily fined alot of the scammers in the business. In agreement......take lots of pics. How's the back.....and the car repairs coming? The split second turn of the head, yep, I KNOW that one. Went through a period of saying prayers to and from work. Keep in mind the aim was to keep the smokes out of the hand in attempt to quit. Catholic....rosary.....15 mins per 5 decades. 45min drive = no smokes. LOL One morning was lazy only said two. Put down rosary. Looking for smokes. See utility truck braking for stop light....and still hunting.....patting and feeling everything for the familiar shape of that box. Truck stops. I stop.......2+ car lengths away. Tap brakes to move inch by inch just a little closer. Finally think the smokes are located. Still tapping the brake and glance to make sure my find is correct. OMG. Hood in HEAVY duty bumper and crinkled!!!! Back up. Other driver doesn't react. Begin to search for pertinent info to exchange. Light green other driver speeds off and I can't catch him. He disappears. And a thought.........."You're really funny, Dear Lord. Your way of giving me a little extra incentive to quit, right?!" Anyway will say a few prayers that everything will work out. Wanda
There is something out there called "construction mediation", where contractors are going to get sued, and you can opt for a mediator instead of going through the legal stuff.... have you thought about contacting a lawyer who will take on the case and not charge you anything until it is settled, and perhaps get the attorney's fees paid for by the defendant(s) WHEN you win the case?
Just a thought...

Woo Hoo! LOVE the doll, JJ. Thanks so much.......My plan is to have someone ELSE fix it and deduct that cost from the total for the first guy. I left him a msg stating what my intentions are since I gave them the oppty to make it right and that I hope he'll accept that, if not, he can take me to court! (thanks for mediator info I may have to look into that). I have not heard back from him yet. (He's still trying to convince me that it's standard practice to remove and trim the storm exteriors!) I will be on the phone first thing tomorrow morning to get some estimates....Wish me luck this butt head agrees and doesn't give me any more problems.
