A very merry (sorry sober) Crimbo to everyone.

This has certainly been the least fun of any xmas eve I can remember. The highlight was going to bed for a couple of hours this evening because I was so bored and there was nothing to do.

If I was less determined I would have owned up to having made a horrible mistake, had a drink or two and enjoyed myself. Instead I will stubbornly persist and continue to inflict this misery on myself.

It's not a mistake, it may feel like it in the early days but it gets much better!

Best wishes.

Chris.

Hey guys,

Merry Christmas Eve to you all. It is now 6:44 pm TX time and I have no idea what I'm going to do this evening. But I will not drink, I've said the Serenity Prayer a few times, I think I may venture down the street to see the living nativity acted out, and then look at Christmae lights.I'm feeling alone, but I know I'm not and that God is with me and will see me through this one just like every day and every night in the past.

I am thinking of you all and praying ,too.

(((Hugs)))

Okay, so what is "Crimbo"? I know what my parents used to say when I would tell them that I am bored.  I can go on a great negativity dry drunk, but am just recoverying from a wet drunk and decided to ....    take a deep breath and try again..  to take a little step forward.

Happy celebration of Jesus' birthday,

and if you are not Christian, have a good and peaceful joyous night, or day, or whatever it is when you read this,

Crimbo or crimble = English for Xmas .

Just got back from mass at the Italian church in London - no spiritual meaning, just a study in the language and the cultture. Quite pleasant and very cheap per minute of entertainment - the band was good, but a lot of the jokes went over my head. Got some free calendars which will make good late crimbo pressies.

Stuffing is done and gravy is boiling away (yes it has got wine in it - so what? the alcohol boils off very quickly)

Maybe I'll practice some guitar chords to while away the night.

Sobriety is a big mistake and very very dull.

Happy crimbo

well, Stan...  what do you think is the 'right' thing to do, if sobriety is a mistake for you? You're right,,  it is much duller than DT's and vomiting, and the maudlin stuff I was into today. Another person was commenting at a meeting today that she has stopped causing a lot of chaos at holiday gatherings and giving her family peace as a gift this weekend. What will they ever do without the chaos? Another guy....   he comes for the donuts...  but his Higher Power is nothingness and so there is nothing else for him to do...  he just watches us in a kind of contempt as we struggle along.

Well,, nice to meet you anyway...   hate to bore you with our little steps toward progress in a positive and constructive attitude that brings us serenity.

hi Amanda

Each to his/her own: vomitting DTs and maudlin sound like bad news and should be avoided. I can agree with you there.

Me: I work as a Chartered Accountant which is very ordered, methodical and precise (and can be just a tad boring) so in my private life I crave chaos and hate boredom. I stopped vomitting every morning the day after I quit smoking. As a pisshead I never got DTs and was only ever accused of being maudlin after I put my dog down last year. Apparently when you are drunk you do not have the same right to grieve as sober people.

If I was drunk no doubt I could say I am bored out of my f***ing mind with this stuff, well I have that problem with being straight.

Got go and deliver vodka and fags to make someone's crimbo a happy one. Looking forward to my xmas cup of tea to cheer me up.

Happy crimble everyone
