Dead Husbands

A woman announces to her friend that she is getting married for the fourth time.

"How wonderful! But I hope you don't mind me asking what happened to your first husband?"

"He ate poisonous mushrooms and died."

"Oh, how tragic! What about your second husband?"

"He ate poisonous mushrooms, too, and died."

"Oh, how terrible! I'm almost afraid to ask you about your third husband."

"He died of a broken neck."

"A broken neck?"

"He wouldn't eat the mushrooms."

pffft. Snow Angels and snow men! What a life! While you've been gallavanting in the snow over there... I've been fencing in heat that could very well fry an egg! Actually it probably has...not game to crack the eggs I collected today. Someone once announced that Sunday was the day of rest... Well, I'll put my last $20 on the fact that Noah would have disagreed with that!

Anyone with critters of the furry, feathered or four-legged variety know that rest is a rare thing as long as they can bark, bleat, whinny, quack or in some way voice their demand for attention. Anyone else out there have critters?

I remember my sponsor telling me it was time to get a plant... I thought she was a nutcase. After years of watching plants die, she suggests I kill another one! Funny you know... I've always done what she suggested, even if I thought she was wrong. Sometimes, I just did it to prove her wrong... but that is yet to happen. She said I had to learn how to care for things, so I started with a "Happy" plant. The nursery guy told me they were tough and would handle my mistakes and forgetfulness. He knew what he was on about.. I still have it and its way taller than me now, despite my lapses. Still in it's pot - as I've never considered letting it actually settle in anywhere until now.. (probably something in that...but this is not the time for analysis...later). I also have a nice garden now. Nothing fancy, and kind of 'free living' and spontaneously extending itself! It feeds us and the critters and really is quite a little oasis compared to much of the local landscape. I love it.

The critters have all arrived with stories of their own. I love them too. Learning to care for them has been a fascinating journey. Getting to know their quirky personalities. Thankfully, despite demanding attention, they are patient with my mistakes and there's been many! I just smile when people say things like: "Ya won't tame that brumby - she's as wild as they come!" or "That dogs trouble, that one - Ya wanna watch her"... When you've come through what we have, you can't turn your back on a "hard case" or the "behaviourally challenged" I figure... You know that just cos some twit comes along pronouncing somethings lack of usefulness or worthiness, that it doesn't mean their right! And there's a spirit there somewhere, that was broken for whatever reason. I wonder how many twits said just the same kind of things about me once... I love my mob of misfits.

Life really is good, aye Phil? How lucky are we? Really? Each doing what makes us happy, learning to laugh, enjoying inspiration, waking up with things to do that keep us smiling. We're a lucky lot, I reckon.

Good Sunday Morning to all, yes--it's morning here--about 11am EST

Day of rest?  I got the day off too, Phil-----been a while for me.  I got a marathon of Dr. Wayne Dyer on PBS, later I will put up the tree & maybe take a bike ride.

Tomorrow is my 40th birthday, wow--I feel more like I'm 28!

I'm not drinking--Just taking it as it goes---Life may be lonely & sad, but it sure is less lonely & sad & more interesting sober these days.

Take care everyone

Hi Nic. Used to have a small farm with lots of critters, big garden, and a full time job also.

Used to work 7 days a week, in business. Found out that there was more to life than working.:) and had to slow it all down.:)--never had time to even stop and smell the roses. Thank God, that today it is a matter of putting it all in slow mode. And taking time off, whether one wishes to or not. Had to get rid of the critters, and garden and just disappear, a few times a week. To each their own.:)

Always wanted to do a "pay for" massage thingy. Did that yesterday. Man!! Relaxing, and invigorating. And Yup. Built the snow man. Who wants to grow up completely anyway. (Smile)

As for the weather. ? Too bad we could bottle some of it up and do some trade offs:) Looks like another few inches of snow here today. Onward Rudolf, Comet, and Blitzen.

Catherine.? I can identify with loneliness and sadness. Sat here many a day, in despair, with expectations blown all to "H", health problems also--wondering just where God was leading me.

I used to listen to people tell me, that when God closes one door, He opens others, and that we do get through the dark tunnels we hafta go through.

I Didnt beleive them at the time, but after going through a lot of growing tunnels, I beleive that today.

There are doors that open. All we hafta do is walk through a few of them, to see whats on the other side.

A year ago--sober-I remember when there was no hope, and I just wanted to end it all.

Well-we hang in, and just trust blindly that it will get better. It Does.

Tonight I get to devour a birthday cake, and celebrate 20 years of not picking up a drink, one day at a time.
I dont brag about that--Im just pretty darned grateful.

You have a good day.
