This is my first day to check out this site. I've enjoyed reading the message boards. One said, "Stay away from the places where you are tempted to drink". For me it's not bars, it's home. (so embarrassing). I guess this has become my coping buddy at home when alone. Sipping wine or beer all day while I do (the things I used to love around the house)! I have some time off this week and so here I am in the place I love, (home). You know how when you are at work you alway want to be at home. My teenagers are both out today, (no school this week). I am going to find the peace that comes from piddling around my house all day and not thinking I have to sip alcohol. Perhaps someone has heard of this before? Have a good one.
Using alcohol for a companion is what we all did. Then comes the isolation, and then alcohol turns on us. When we contemplate giving it up, it's hard to imagine living without it. We have replace it with getting back into world that we isolated from. That's why we go to AA meetings. That and learning what makes us tick, and predisposes us into becoming dependent on alcohol and other things. good luck on your new journey.
Welcome Calico! Glad youre here! I too loved to drink at home. A drink to do laundry a drink to do bills a drink to paint my house in some stupid way!!!!! Really wasnt a bar drinker and have a fab back yard and partying neighbors that were always offering me some concoction! Stay busy, hit some meetings especially. I hit 2-3 a day at first just to get out of the house!!! Glad your here and speaking of kids....Mine just called for a ride home from track!!! Run Run Run!!!! Have a great day! Lani

Perhaps someone has heard of this before? Been there!! There is freedom from this thing, I found the answers in the rooms of AA. We can, I cannot. Wagon

For me home was were I did all of my drinking. So, in the early days of sobriety I kept myself as busy as possible doing all of the jobs that I had put off for so long.
Meetings are terrific for me and the only way that I can keep sober. Try to get to as many as you can. There are some really wonderful people in the rooms of AA and they have all been were you are right now. It's great to have somewhere to go where we are understood.
Please keep posting and letting us know how things are going for you, won't you?
Take care,
Carol
