I never understood the reasoning for a day to designate as a day to get drunk.  For this drunk, everyday was designated OK.  When my partying was "full-steam ahead" I always considered St. Pat's, 4th of July, etc., as amateur hours. 

For this drunk, a lot of bad memories associated with festive ocassions.  And they always led back to those "one day a year drunks."

Though, I always have a funny memory from St. Pat's day.  In college lived with a couple of other guys and our house was party central.  It wasn't out of the norm, to wake up in the morning and have a dozen or so people sleeping on couches, chairs or the floors.

The day after St. Pat's I woke up early with a good hangover, tripping over people I thought we could start St. Pat's all over again! I made my way into the kitchen, where we still had quite a bit of green beer and I thought, why not be creative and make everyone breakfast.

What goes great with green beer? Green eggs!!! Yup, cracked open a couple of dozen eggs - all sunny side up - and all quite an ugly shade of green.  I was excited to get this all going for another day of partying - so I woke everyone up and said breakfast was ready!

Let's just say, my idea of an original breakfast didn't go over too well.  Nothing worse than getting a dozen drunks in the same room - all with hangovers - looking at a plate of green eggs!!!

Tug, I think the word "attractive" says alot. There seems an endless barage of advertising that makes alcohol "attractive". One looks handsome/prettier, one has more fun, ect. The irony of it all.
The most ironic one are the "fundraisers". Locally over and over, poker runs, every weekend throughout nicer weather, although, there are some held for the "polar bears".
The charity hi-lighted in biggest bold letters.......followed by "all proceeds (or percentage of proceeds) goes to........." With each line the type gets just a little smaller. The last line
usually lists all the taverns and addresses.
My personal favorite is one held for "downed bikers". There has been one here for the
last 5-6yrs. The funds raised goes into an account to finance, those bikers (sometimes a family member) who was injured in a motorcycle accident as help to offset medical expenses.
In some cases monies have been donated to the family when death is result to offset funeral
or other immediate expenses. All understandably admirable.
The irony though.......the bulk of the accidents/death were direct result of alcohol. The
bulk of the profits from consumption. The bulk of the drivers under the influence before
they even mount to go to the first stop, therefore taking the risk they or their families will
be the next to be donated to. With each successive stop......they of course become just
a little more intoxicated.

understand a charity raising money off something that caused the accident/death in the first place and risking another of the same.
Such is the attractiveness ....... to tug at the heart strings duping one to believe that
with each drink he is helping another.

To those who here and elsewhere who have found their way out of the haze, I commend
you. I pray your HP give you the strength and wisdom to continue your lives in sobriety.
May your example be one that will inspire others.

How about a nice Ulster Fry instead, with a nice big glass of orange juice?
