Hi, I'm just posting here in the hope of some comradely supportive words.
I quit drinking in late 2018 after 25 years of going progressively downhill. I was then completely clean for four and a half years.
Lately I've started taking cocaine. It's escalated from a little here and there to a lot every day. Inevitably, that started me drinking again.
Now I'm starting again - day one - ditching the coke and the booze again. I'm old enough and ugly enough to know better and feel a bit of despair at having relapsed, but am gathering my wits and will together and going for it. Wish me luck please, nice people.

Ditch the "will" (Step 3). If you drink like I did...meaning you've lost the ability to NOT drink (bump) or can't control how much once you start...then you just might be a REAL alcoholic like me. The Big Book says of those like us, "unless (we) can experience an entire psychic change there is very little hope of (our) recovery. On the other handand strange as this may seem to those who do not understandonce a psychic change has occurred, the very same person who seemed doomed, who had so many problems he despaired of ever solving them, suddenly finds himself easily able to control his desire for alcohol, the only effort necessary being that required to follow a few simple rules.
Are you willing to go to any lengths?
