K well I am new so I was wondering what type of board this is and what do you use it for , I am an active Alcholic and I can see and feel myself slowly killing myself with alcohol.

  I am first looking for a place where I can get some questions answered by previous  users on some health symptoms I have right now compared to what other users had or have and also I want to start the process of my recovery.

   Any help or direction would be appreciated

Hi Jase. Welcome. I'm "Doll",  alcoholic w/100 continous days of sobriety.

I use this forum as a backup to my AA meetings. Here, just like AA, we share what it was like, what happened and what it's like now.

As for health issues, I can share things I've been thru, but my suggestion is for you to see a medical professional regarding those.

As for starting recovery, I think you've done that by coming here, next call your local Alcoholics Anonymous. The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking.

We do quite a lot of the same things as you would find at a local AA meeting, listening to each other, and offering support to each other to stay sober, one day at a time.

Morning Jase.  We are all a big group of recovering people, who are powerless over alcohol, and as Doll says...use this board...to share our experience, strength, and hope...with each other...as added support....on a daily basis. We are all in the same boat.

Health? Its a big shock physically..when one does not pick up a drink today...My organs..started screaming--my emotions were up and down like a yoyo..and my mental condition, was not that great.---everythings improved a wee bit (smile)...and hopefully will continue to...as long as one stays sober.....and with a program...try to deal with life...as it comes.

For me, it is on physical, psychological, and spiritual planes that alcohol and drugs take their awful toll- But recovery is on all those planes too, and it can be awesome.

Getting to a doctor and an AA meeting might be a good idea. You can probably find a meeting list by searching on the internet. The people there are usu very welcoming supportive.

Glad you're here.  As Doll (and others) suggested:  go see a doctor, then contact your local AA.  And check out the posts of support and observation on this forum; you will find a great deal of comfort and solace in the words you read here.

Hey Everyone,

  Well I would first like to say thanks for the kind replys. Right now I am surrounded by loving people and my family that I have started with my wife but I kinda feel like a warrior in a cold world and I walk around everyday Like its me against the world.

   I would like to say that I did see a doctor about 6 weeks ago , blood tests and all and was completely honest about my habits and my "problem".  He said all was fine , high cholestorol probably associated with the drinking. When I drink I only drink beer and I drink about 5 to 6 days a week and the only reason I don't drink that 7th day is because I feel to bad from the 6th. See I am sick and tired of being sick and tire, plus I want to be around for my kids thats my main focus and reason for wanting to quit. Alcohol has such a huge impact and focus on my life that I even pick it over my own wife and find ways to canive to make sure she doesn't find out actually how much I drink. But in the end I jsut end up drunk and messing up and being found out and I look like an ass.

  I will say that I have been through alot but so has everyone. The thing I pride myself in is that I am as normal as I am for being in what I have been in. Then I find out that though I am normal I still need work because this poison has a hold on me.

  Right now my health is pretty bad from drinking. I have personality changes but not severe I know when it happens "When I don't Have a drink : )"  I ahve organ pains, I think some of you may know what I mean, I seriously just wreck my organs so much I can feel my liver hurt and my kidneys.

  I've also started heart palpitations , alot of crazy crap when I go to sleep and I just plain feel like shit.

        Yet for the time being I am completely functional , I go to work everyday, I make it on time , I am a good dad and try to be husband But...

  I was in the Marines and have quit working out so I feel like a heep of BEep beEpP .

   Well I would like to thank you again for the warm welcome and you probably will see alot more of me on this board if you don't mind.

  I am quite a project for myself but for all the meanneass that alcohol makes me feel I am a kind hearted person and a strong heart and that makes me never give up , no matter how many battles I lose.
