I know it's a strange question, and your thinking "if she doesnt know, than she probably is" and thats what I was thinking but everyone is telling me that I'm not. The thing is, my husband is and I have been a member of Alanon for a while now. I am pregnant and obviously havent had a drink in a while. We use to drink together, but I never got as drunk as him. I did drink every night but I went to sleep at a reasonable hour and only kept a buzz the whole time. My husband is in recovery now and he has said to met hat I have a problem too. So I started thinking about it and I realized that I do like to drink, I was rasied in an alcoholic family so it is not unusual to drink everyday. But I did quit easily when I got pregnant, both times. My pastor thinks that my husband is convincing me that I have a problem too so that he doesnt have to go throught this alone or to take some heat off of him. But I dont know. I guess what I'm asking is, what makes an alcoholic? I have looked up the dictionary term and I still dont know if I had a problem. I think that I might have gotten as bad as my husband if I havent been pregnant most of my adult life. I am only 23 and I had my son a week before I turned 21. Can someone please tell me if it seems like I have a problem?

After looking at that list if isn't the easiest thing in the world to walk away from booze forever than you're probably an alcoholic.

Wow, this is a hard one for me. I am married to an alcoholic who has been sober for 15 yrs, I have been sober for 4 1/2 yrs. I never thought I was the problem, it was always HIM. After he quit drinking, I started to sneak around and hide my drinking. I really thought I could control it but found that I couldn't. Alcoholism is a progressive disease...it only got worse, never could moderate it. Eventually I found myself alone and almost homeless...that's when I found out I was powerless.
I will tell you that after about 2 yrs into my husband's sobriety he quit trying to get me to stop drinking. That's when it really got crazy for me. I went to Alanon because they didn't tell me I had to quit drinking. Everything I did was in someway related to drinking...the jobs I took, the people I was friends with, etec...I had a mental obsession with alcohol along with the physical allergy.
If you have a Big Book, read the Drs. Opinion and the first 3 chapters. Read it more than once. Look for yourself in those pages. Ask yourself these questions..."are they talking about me? Is it possilbe I am NOT an alcoholic?"
