So i need to clear up some warrents i have for my job...my boss needs to do a crimainal background check...2 of the warrents ...are for parking tickets...i was in the bar no doubt...I lived on the streets pretty much for 3 years...the beginning of the 3 years was the beginning of my bottom, although today i believe the ultimate bottom is death. If i don't drink today i won't have to go there. While i was picked up one day last summer for these warrents, the cops put me in jail overnight on them. As they were taking me in they went through my purse and found 1/2 a joint. i was charged with possession under 30 grams. I never made it court for that charge and now not only do i have a warrent but a failing to appear. So...i finally got up the courage to make the phone call and start the ball rolling to clear this all up....phew...
So i found out that there are whats called warrant committals for the parking tickets, which means i no longer have the option of working them off, which was my plan. Now i have to just pay them. I don't have the money for them either..anyways. For the warrent for the joint i have to go down to the crown prosecutors office any day of the work week at 1 pm and they;'ll put me on the docket for court at 2 pm. During that hour wait i'll probably be put in cells. That scares me. I can only be honest with the judge and explain that i was in active addiction at the time and have since been turning my life around and have been clean and sober for 11 months. Has anyone had experience with any of this? Another question i have is...When and if i get these warrents cleared up how is my criminal background check going to look to my boss? She doesn't know anything about my addiction, and quite honestly i prefer it that way.
On another note my daughter brought home a fist full of letters today,,she shared her experience with having a drug addicted alcoholic for a mom,,and the letters really made me cry. How God is working in my life, the fact that she loves me still and is here with me after all i put her through is truly a gift. I am sooo blessed. It also sounded like she may have made some of these kids think twice about their next drink or drug. that is awesome!! So kinda of an emotional day for me. I did go to 2 meetings so far today and intend on going to one tonight as well. Hope you are all well, safe and smilin'....\\//, wendy

I've had bench warrants issued for my arrest as a result of failure to appear for speeding tickets, and was considered a fugitive by the Commonwealth of Virginia for several years. I was also issued a summons and was fined for trespassing on Federal land (staggering around drunk in the woods at 2am).
As far as I know none of that shows on my record, and it's never caused me any problems. I've held a gov't security clearance and have a concealed weapons permit; I undergo an FBI background check every 5 years for that and they have never mentioned these things.
Half a joint doesn't sound like something that should cause you a lot of grief either. I thought pot was more or less legal up there. (Laws on possession of marijuana vary greatly from state to state in the US and maybe it's the same in Canada.)
My warrants were sorted out when I called the county clerk and offered to pay the outstanding fines. They were interested in the money, not locking me up. I think if you approach this with the proper attitude (that you have made a mistake and you want to make it right) it will all work out fine. It doesn't sound like you've done anything to harm anyone.
Be brave and remember that lots of people make mistakes, even if they're not alcoholics! This is a necessary step to get on with your life and I suspect the judge will recognize that.

I have a friend that had a failure to appear, along with some other stuff that she tried to clear up. She had to go to California to appear before the judge, and since she's now in Wyoming they put her on federal probation and she's paying off her fines. She had to do the same thing, sit in jail while waiting to see the judge.
I agree with John, tell the prosecutor the truth and let him know that if you must go to jail you are willing to do that to make it right, but that you are working now and will be able to pay your fines. You can't pay them if you're in jail, and most judges realize that. Take your BB witih you when you go, so you have something to read while waiting.
I'm not sure about the background check...my friend had a NCIS done so she could take a meeting into the jail and they didn't catch it.

Wendy, good for you that you made that phone call.I know that feeling of relief. We need to try to clear up the wreckage of the past when we can and this will be something you can do that will be just another step in your recovery. Wouldn't it be great to have it cleared up by your one year birthday, it's just another thing you need to take one day at a time.
I know you are proud of your daughter, and how neat the kids wrote her letters.I really think the thing that set me free was being able to share my life, my secrets with others. I wish I could have started that as a teen,maybe things would have turned out differently.She is a brave young lady.
I will be praying for your situation.
