Well it is day 8 and I am feeling pretty strong. It is amazing what sobriety can give me in the way of slef confidence, peace and just feeling OK with myself. Some of the hating and self doubt has dissappeared.
I feel so much better about the fact that I am concsious of my childrens behaviours. That I can raise them with a clear mind as it should be. Sometimes I think about when I will want a drink again-tonight or any other time, and then I realise that I really dont want it because I am learning that I can deal with my feelings honestly and that resolves the resentment I have . Whereas drinking only postpones the inevitable and creates worse problems.
I am grateful to God for my sobriety and I am grateful to myself for being willing to take a chance and trust the program.
I am wondering if anyone can advise what would be a good start for literature for a beginner. I am going to see if I can get hold of any here where I live but what if any would you recommend for a first timer?

Congratulations on 8 days Suzy, those are 8 miracle days.
When I first came into the program I was told to read the first 164 pages of the Big Book, over and over, and then read the personal stories, at leisure. You also must have a Alcoholics Anonymous Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.
You can purchase these at AA meetings, major book stores, and as you see on this site , on line. You can also get them at the library. Those are just a start, there are many great books in AA.
How about meetings, still not an option? Just wondering...
Keep coming here, stay sober one day at a time, you are worth it.We are here for you.

Hi Gammy and wantneeda
Thanks for the response. I am going to approach the contact for the meetings in this place and then ask about literature sales- I really dont think that the libraries here would have anything- they are not even allowed to sell any christian books or drink alcohol here(openly) so I need to do it through the right channels.
I cant do meetings and I think I can do it - well with readings and this site. I would like to attend the meetings but I cant right now. There is a Acoa meeting in the morning today so that will be around 6pm my time. I am going to be there.
