Celebrating 36 years of continuous sobriety... My Anniversary date is January 12, 1974..the day I walked through the doors of AA that cold Saturday morning in Marblehead Mass...
My last drink that respective morning...so AA has indeed worked for me..and continues one day at a time provided I put my sobriety as priority One.
Sobriety and AA has given to me a new wonderful life. Many old acquaintances who new me prior to AA, who I had occasion to recently reconnect with .. are indeed surprised that Im still alive and healthy.
I am blessed and believe that anyone who works the program and practices the principles are similarly blessed.
Its simple but at times not easy.
I dont need any congradulatory expressions..My intention was simply to express if it worked for me..It can work for you...Its a program for people who want it , not a program for people who need it

My real name is Bernie S. I had my last drink on December 1, 1997. I sobered up in the Downtown Dartmouth Group in Dartmouth, NS Canada and at an online group called the Lamplighters Group. I am currently a member of DDG but I haven't always been a member. I am co-founder of Serenity Corner Group, Hilltop Group, Woodside Group, and the Trailer Park 12 and 12 Step Study in District 2, Area 82. I am a regular contributor to the AA Grapevine, and co founder of two online groups, The Three Legged Stool and The Elevator is Broken. Not a bad bio for a guy who's only been here a week and doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. But sometimes we shouldn't we so quick to judge. I know I'm still working on that one myself. Have a great day, unless you have other plans.

HI DEAN, I HAD A LOTOF TROUBLE GETTING ON THE SITE BUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING WAS I DIDN'T USE A CAPITAL FOR MY NAME.IT TOOK ME SUCH A LONG TIME TO ACCEPT I WAS ALCOHOLIC, N IN AND OUT OF A.A FOR YEARS, THINGS GETTING WORSE, ALL THE "YETS" WERE STARTING TO HAPPEN TO ME AND A LOT MORE TO BOOT. I FELL THROUGH A GLASS DOOR IN A BLACKOUT, IN A HOUSE FULL OF SELF CONFESSED ALKIES AND I WAS IN SUCH A MESS, THAT IF I HAD CUT THE WRONG VEIN, I WAS DEAD. I GOT HOME TO MY OWN FLAT, OR MY HELLHOLE AS I CALL IT NOW AND COULD NOTGO OUT FOR TWO WEEKS. THIS WAS THE END, AND AFTER A FEW MEETINGS AND A LOT OF SHARING, READING THE "DOCTORS OPINION" AND "MORE ABOUT ALCOHOLISM", GETTING A SPONSOR AND GETTING ON THE PROGRAM I WAS ON MY WAY TO RECOVERY. I HAVEN'T MENTIONED MY "HIGHER POWER" YET I KNOW NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE IF I HAD NOT HAD THE CLOSE LIASON I HAD AND STILL HAVE TODAY. lOVE MARJIE

It's odd that my past birthdays haven't had me thinking as much as this one has. It's the same as all the others. Milestones, though, are what we shoot for -- be it 1 hour, or 1 year -- if I drink today, it's all for naught.

First meeting (and one of two home groups) was "How Important Is It" in Washington Township, NJ.
I went to my first meeting the day after my last drink, having carefully detoxed at home over the previous four days. I remember saying something like, "My name is Lexie and I think I'm probably finally ready to admit I'm an alcoholic."
I'd been around AA for a long time (in support of others, who qualified me for Al-Anon), but I always thought it was great for them, but I, of course, was different. Not.
My obsession to drink was, thankfully, lifted immediately. Life is better sober.

Thank you!!!
I first got sober in Pahrump NV outside of Vegas on 11/01/99
I got sick a little over three years ago and my new date is 12/15/07
I now live in Reno NV where I make 7 to 10 meetings a week, I know that meeting makers dont nesseseraly make it, but it sure does help.
