I am going to contribute to todays simple reminder.
I was a low bottom drunk, had an awakening, did aa work, and have considered myself recovered for a couple years now. The promises came true. But I could never put a face on the God of my understanding and I just went along with it.
In the last year, almost 5 years sober, that face has been revealed thru another awakening. And naturally it's been right in front of me the whole time. As much as I want to share what that face is, it would outshine the point of this post.
Oh wow Vision, ... way to bait the 'desire' to know 'the rest of the story' as Paul Harvey used to say ... I wouldn't worry about 'outshining' the point of this post as the point here is to give others hope and good articles to get them to ponder their own lives ... and perhaps to make the right 'changes' to make their lives better ... and for the ones around them ...
I've experienced a few 'awakenings' myself ... the first 2 or 3, in the first 2 or 3 years, were very profound and had a big impact on how I went about thinking of life and sobriety ... I feel the face of the God of my understanding is 'Love' ... I don't know how else to describe it ... it's a deep feeling within ... the kind you have around those you love to be with ... it's knowing that all is well with my soul ... it's having faith that everything is as it should be in my life ... it's knowing that there is one who has all power, and for me, that someone is the God of my understanding ... the same one who answered Moses 'I am that I am' ...
Please share more of your thoughts and 'visions' ... (no pun intended) ...

For the sake of another person needing an idea so they can put a face on their God, it's my race. I grew up in a time and place that bombarded me with scumbag culture and piss poor parents that failed on every front led me to adapt a lot of that culture.
For the longest time I thought there has to be more than helping others. There is. Taking pride in your ethnicity (no matter how racist society tells you it is) and securing an existence for your people.
In my humble opinion, the God of my understanding, created all men equal ... He does not distinguish between skin color nor where you're from ... same as the evil alcohol ... He does, however keep the door open to bless those who believe in Him(Her) in ways we cannot possibly understand ... If we were not taught of this 'higher Power' as kids, then we should open our hearts and mind to the wonders and blessings of life ... and the miracles of recovery on many fronts ... the power is there, and with an ounce of faith, all things are possible ...
There are many things beyond our control, but there is one who has all power, and that one is God, may we find Him now ... so the answer is left for us to change the way we think ... the way we see things ... I truly believe we are all brothers and sisters under one sky ...
No, I'm not a religious nut, nor do I belong to any religious organization ... just simply went through a 'spiritual awakening' as a result of working the 12 steps ... guess you could say I was agnostic before ...

We can only move forward and truly progress once the baby boomer generation is gone. It's mainly that generation that will not let go of the idea of equality. Equality is false God and one of the most freeing feelings I have had in sobriety is accepting that we are not all equal. I'm not mad at you pap, we are indoctrined into it very early. Some can shed that skin in their lifetime and some can't.
This is a good subject ... I have come to believe that we are all equal in the eyes of God ... inequality is human 'short-sightedness' ... which is what you've described above, in my opinion ... too many people want to run the whole show no matter who gets in their way ... they feel the need to be 'in control' without regard to how it effects others ...
Prejudice is a human trait, not a Godly one ... it destroys lives that would/could otherwise be wonderful if only our 'thinking' would allow us to see what could be ... ... ... it is only by 'giving up, and surrendering', (letting go of preconceived ideas) that we can be open to spiritual consciousness and growth ...
We, in AA, don't have the corner market on spiritual growth, but it would be nice to see more of that in today's world ... (alcoholic or not)
