Sanity Check - Please weigh in

Hi All!

Please do me a favor and let me know what you think of the following statement with respect to presenting a 24 hour chip.

... "and now the most important chip of all, 24 hours to 29 days.  No guilt, no shame, we all have enough to go around".

Our chip person has been saying this for over a year.  Suddenly this statement has become a topic for discussion.  I have an opinion but in this rare instance I will keep it to myself.  I'd be very curious to know your opinion.  After all, it's about a group conscience.

Thanks!

I can imagine the, sky is falling, triggered, this guy is gonna kill AA types that hold this bs in until it spills over into online message boards. I used to be the same too.

I say simmer down soldier. These things have a way of working themselves out. And it's always rather sooner than later. Breeeeaaaaaattthhe.

Hi Visonz,

Nothing like that really.  I'm breathing is regular and my O2 is just fine, Thank you.  We have a known trouble maker in the group who is "concerned that the message is off-putting to the new comer".  Personally, I think it's a lot nicer than "take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth..... sit down, shut up you have nothing to offer".  She has the new(ish) secretary in a spin.  I was just looking for something that would keep the secretary calm until the next biz meeting.

Personally, I find this rather confusing ... When I accepted this chip, it represented my desire and commitment to not drink for 24 hours ... I could not conceive, at that point, of not drinking for 29 days, that seemed an impossible quest ...

I say 'keep it simple' and simply offer it as a desire to not drink for 24 hours ... and if you succeed for 30 days, then grab that 30-day chip and keep do'n what you're do'n for the next 24 hours ... after all, this is a 'ONE DAY AT A TIME' program ...

This thread encapsulates what I loathe about AA...every stumblebumpisspot drunk (myself included) has a "problem" with unimportant inane nonsense and becomes obsessive about it.

"Why do they say this?"

"Why do they use poker chips?"

"Why are things the way they are?"

Just shut up.

Just shut your goddamn boozehole and listen. You aren't smarter than the people who've put together the AA plan of recovery. Either defer to the experts or go away.
