Trying to get over this craving

I am 26 and I am trying to recover from alcohol addiction. My parents were alcoholics but I didn't use alcohol till I was 22. My brother passed away by taking an overdose of drugs causing a brain death leaving me in shock. I couldn't accept his death. After the death of my brother, the responsibility of looking after my family was on me and it put me in stress. I worked part-time as a bartender. I started to drink with my co-workers in order to get relieved from my stress. I used to drink so much that it resulted in blackouts. Now I am in a relationship and my boyfriend asked me to quit drinking alcohol saying it would be bad for our future. He is a person who understands me and does what is good for me. I love him a lot. Even I want to quit this. I don't want my children to see me as an alcoholic. But the thing is that, even if I am trying, I am not able to do it. So I thought of taking help from an alcohol addiction treatment centre near Toronto( SPAM removed ). I have so many doubts about this. How much time will it take to get over this habit? Will I suffer from withdrawal symptoms? Is there anything that I should do before taking the treatment? What do you think, Isn't it good to take help from them as I am not able to quit myself?

Rehab is only a start; few remain sober on rehab alone and the literature predicts this result. AA is a life long program, but the compulsion to drink or craving can last a long time. Literature also says that you have to get sober for yourself or it will be short-lived. Overall we abstain from drinking one manageable day at a time.

Wendy, ... you have to recognize Alcoholism for what it is ... iff'n you got it, you need help to recover from it ... Choice is yours and you're the ONLY ONE that can make it ...

Candy ... carry a pocket, and/or purse, with some 'hard candy' ... if the craving hits, let the candy dissolve slowly in your mouth ... then GET to an AA meeting ...

Love ya and God Bless,
Pappy

I prayed Daily for the obsession to drink (and drug) be removed, and at 6 months, shortly after completing my 5th step, it was gone and has been for 27 years.
