There is someone who constantly says, "uh huh, um hmm" or worse, says something affirmative to the person sharing like, "that's right" or "no, that's fine" for example. We want to extend her the courtesy of not blasting in in front of the group, so how can I approach her? I cannot control how she will feel if I bring it to her attention because I'm certain she is unaware of her disruptive comments. Any suggestions?

Welcome to our little discussion forum, Joan.

What is your stated rule regarding "crosstalk?"

Yes, Welcome to MIP Joan, ...

My old 'Home Group' always started meet'ns with an alert about no cross-talk as respect for the person who has the floor ... ... ... A good 'group discussion leader' will call out anyone disrupting the meet'n ... ... ... But in the marginal situation you descibe, I feel it better to have a calm, rational discussion with the person to see if one can explain how some people might be distracted by such behavior ... and suggest they hold their comments to themselves or til after the meet'n ...

Love ya and God Bless,
Pappy

Enthusiasm is a remarkable tool to squash ego. These little quips and mmmhmm's might be that persons enthusiasm.

Live and let live comes to mind on this one.

Ya dig?
