Anyone Attending a Meeting on Thanksgiving Day?

I might see if there are any meetings in my area on Thanksgiving day before I celebrate the day with friends and family. This will be the first Thanksgiving that I don't drink and it might be tough.

I got sober in southern California and my old home group met every Thursday evening in Orange County. I moved up here to the SF bay area several years ago, but I still have family down south and I go back home every year for the holidays. I make a point of going to my old home group every Thanksgiving when I'm down there. There are still some people there who knew me when I was a newcomer, nearly 28 years ago.

I'm looking forward to seeing my family and my old AA home group in SoCal next week. Happy Holidays!

If i was alone i would go and hang out for hours at the Alano club i'd be guaranteed to have lots of people to talk to and a few meals for free :) but i'm going to my Ma's house.

I got sober in early October. I remember it was pretty grim for me that first Thanksgiving. I went to regular meetings before and after Thanksgiving but not on the day, I must've went to a family celebration, can't remember now. I wasn't in jeopardy of drinking then, as I was taking Antabuse at the time.

Since then, I've sometimes gone to alcothon meetings on Thanksgiving. Sometimes not.

Do what you need to do, Roman. Have a backup meeting to go to if necessary. Your local central office will usually know about extra meetings scheduled for the holidays.

Definitely plan meetings the day before and during The Day! Lots of gratitude gets shared. Potluck dinners and marathons at some places....call AA Central to find out! Good luck! !

It has been a very wonderful time seeing so many people attend holiday meetings. I made ham and turkey biscuits, potato salad and other things and it was all like a family gathering!
