Been sober 18 days , can't say I miss drinking I feel good, but I still get irritated at work on occasion not as bad as I use to. I also am feeling the 4 th of July blues, the 4 th is a big thing in my town . The only problem it's an alcohol thing everyone drinks on the 4 th, it's going to O be a real test, my son has baseball so that should keep me busy. But it's hot and humid and muggy , great beer drinking weather, I guess I am getting the cravings . I hope my sons team wins so I can take him to baseball Sunday too, if not I might have to find 5 or 6 meetings. Any ideas

Go to the dollar store and buy a whole bunch of glow sticks and tape - and pass them out to some kids at the fireworks - save some for yourself and tape them to your arms and legs and body and head - then dance around in the dark like a glow stick man and soon you'll have a bunch of kids doing the same and everyone sitting around will laugh and be happy and enthused - and then you will feel happy too - and your son will see a great example of having fun without alcohol.

Bringing out the best in you - brings out the best in others around you.

G'day Bunchie . WELL Done on Your 18 Days . to me , 5 or 6 meetings sound Great.

Why , Don't you wait until The 4th Gets here . That's WHY WE Live "ONE Day at a time".

During , One day . WE Are Willing . Not to pick up one drink one day at a time . When the

4th gets here , you might want to break it down to a more manageable level . Like an hour.

Or 10 minutes , maybe 5 Or even ONE Minute at a time.

Even though I have been sober over 20yrs , I also suffer from Anxiety/Depression , allthough

I take meds for this . I don't feel the need or want for a drink . But . This Breath , breathe John ,

breathe John . Works for Me . Yes , like in a meditation , just taking note of my breathing.

Happy 4th & May the Force be with you.

Thank you Mystic Man , how about sweets I have been buying chocolate chip cookies and ice cofee everyday on ride home from work. It's perplexing because I was not a daily alcoholic my job is too dangerous, but I was or am the classic binge drinking alkie you have probably ever seen. I would work 2 jobs all week and drink all weekend like a Viking, could hardly function all week because of anxiety and depression caused by alcohol. Why am I craving sweets even though I did not drink everyday?

Hi New User, I am the previous new user.  I can imagine the 4th a tempting time.  Well done no booze.  I usually feel down on such occasions.  Read, write, reflect, talk, share go for another boring walk, use the internet- LOTS.  The internet has so many stories, resources.  Go to a meeting, get a sponsor, see a counsellor- talk to a tree if it works for you. ANYTHING. Do everything and something new in your abilities to stop that first drink.  Support is here- keep using it.  3 months for me.  Hard, hell - but I am beginning to see a change for it.  Cheers- John.
