Steroids and Recovery

I have been in the fitness world my entire life and have so much respect for every aspect of fitness.  That included those people who use steroids and put in a lot of hard work!  I just want to net people's experience on steroids and how they effect sobriety.  Please no uneducated, opinionated discussions only for the sake of argument.  I am not on here to argue.  The man in my life (who is amazing) has 6 years sobriety and uses steroids.  I have seen changes in host personality over the years, however, life, circumstances and even sobriety can create those changes too.  I just have been very scared lately how he will be effected permanently and as he cycles off.  Steroid use (the money, the people involved, the moods) has effected our relationship and my life as well.

Hi, and welcome. I think you answered your own question "steroid use has effected our relationship and my life as well". As an alcoholic, I don't use any mood or mind altering substances. I know where it will lead. Good luck.

Hi Op....

I had typed a reply with a couple of sites names which I thought you may find some more info. Got a message when I hit submit that it had to go through an administrator because it was suspected of being spam.

LMAO Baba, ... No, the hormones in our cows milk causes premature growth in our children ... when I was a kid, girls didn't blossom til late teens ... ever give notice to our 'kids' today??? ... Only recently have we been able to find 'no hormone' milk in the stores ... Milk that says 'this milk is from cows that have not been treated with "rbST" hormones .... and then there's the antibiotics that have caused a human resistance to vital antibiotics when we need them ...

I too, drink a ton of milk ... (gallon and 1/2 a week) ... and ever since I discovered one local store carries 'non-rbST' milk, that's all I'll buy ... and just this year, a popular brand, 'Purity', started marketing their new 'non-rbST' milk at nearly double the price ... (If you have a Publix grocery store nearby, their regular milk is 'non-rbST' ... and at a reasonable price, 'bout 1/2 that of the Purity brand) ... it's funny, I shop at Kroger once a week(on Seniors discount day) to buy all my groceries except milk and ice cream, I make a special trip to Publix for those ....

AND, I guess Baba, that IS a contributing factor to the demise of our nut problem, LOL ... well uh, mine is due to the Drs pump'n me full of that stuff try'n to kill my Prostate gland ... I could tell you way more than you'd ever care to know about this stuff, LOL ... or rather, it's effects on the male body ...

So, the hormone milk is why the girls look like they do today? I say we keep the hormones in the milk. Matter of fact, double them hormones.

And yes, we have Publix down here in South Florida. But, I ain't telling any girls about it.

Way off topic here, but the use of rBST or rBGH is dairy cattle does not add any hormones to milk. Hormones used to stimulate increased milk production are metabolized by the cattle and levels in milk are not higher than other production methods. I've read that the majority of liquid milk sold is from cows that are not given synthetic hormones as a feed additive, but can't find the reference right now. Earlier ages of puberty can be traced to improved overall nutrition.

Sorry H1, ...

Baba started it, ... LOL ... and NO, I do not wish to hear of your dreams ... LOL ...

I don't know Troy ... in the 50's 60's I remember very well starting to pay attention to the girls ... only a few 'developed' much by 16 to 17 y/o ... today, I notice girls that I feel look 18 or 19 only to find out they're 13 ... maybe it's just me, but I see a huge difference and the thing about nutrition on what I've heard is by-n-large, we do not eat as well today, because of all the additives in our food, than we did 50 years ago ... ??? ... I don't know who or what to believe anymore ...

Sorry for getting way off topic here ... it's Baba's fault ... well, maybe mine too, LOL ...

LOL...no apologies needed, Pappy....I was joking....I certainly do my fair share of jumping right in and adding my share to enriching topics such as the one you and Baba got going...ha!

My sister must have drank (drunk? oops...don't want to use THAT word) a lot more milk than I did when we were growing up. She was very "filled out" at a very young age. My mom took me shopping and it was hard to find a boulder holder small enough to fit me!It's like, what was even the point? I don't remember, maybe I begged her for one so I would feel "bigger". I was teased unmercifully in school and kids would ask me why I wasn't "built" the way she was. Well, duhhhhh! Like I had a choice in the matter? I was even called "Minnesota Flats" by some of the guys. We didn't even live in Minnesota!

That's okay H1 ... I, against all 'guy codes', prefer the more uh, medium breasted type ... and when I married my wife, I made sure that she new that anything more than a mouthful was a waste, LOL ...

Not to mention gravity like Baba, but those big 'puppies' tend to be affected by gravity much more than the uh, lesser endowed ones ... @ 62, there has been very little change in my wife's appearance ... yes, petite is the way to go ... for me anyway ...

Ootaaaah Baba, let me have it ... ... ... I'm sick, but you already knew that, LOL ...

oh, I heard that "more than a mouthful" quote more than once...problem was, with the only exception being my ex-hubby, the guys I chose to be with were such big mouths, uh, well....you get it.
Yep, and Baba is going to be here and we have both given him way too much leeway for his keen wit to go wild.

Prob. more fear is that a moderator won't have the same type of humor we have.wink

Personally, I love to laugh! And for someone who has been down in the woe is me's for so long and found more to whine/cry about than to laugh about, it's about darn time I am trying to reverse that pathetic thinking, be grateful for having another day to live and laugh til Baba's come !

You guys got me all wrong. Ever since I tried to give that girl advice about inseminating cows, and, now that I mention that I love milk, and, Pappy sayin that hormones make your sac shrink, but y'all just think I'm sittin around, drinking milk, watching my balls get smaller, thinkin that those "Got Milk?" Ads are a bunch of baloney, and having fun with cows.

Ok, maybe it's true. But, at least I ain't sitting around drinking alcohol. (I had to make a link with alcohol somehow).

And, why do the hormones in the milk make the girls grow bigger, but make the boys grow smaller? I don't get it. Life is just one big mystery to me, and, it ain't fair.

All foods have hormones in them. It sort depends on the particular hormone and its effect on various gonadal (is that a word?). Cabbage has a much higher estrogen level than milk or dairy products as do beans and soy products. Easy access to higher calorie foods with higher sugar and fat content likely has more affect on earlier onset puberty than a perception of hormones in a single food product. However, I wonder why I am talking about this.......Baba - find some foods higher in testosterone and the boys may start coming back - I would suggest Rocky Mountain Oysters and horse radish. If they don't make your own boys grow back to manly proportions, then perhaps you are done using them. ;)

What about GMO's ... plants that have been genetically engineered to produce their own poison to bugs??? ... for higher yields ... I know, it's that or crop dust'n ... and then there's organic if you can trust the labeling ... I raise a garden ... and there are alternatives to chemical bug sprays and 'dusts' and stuff ... you can plant certain flowers around your garden that are natural 'bug repellents' ...

our bodies just weren't engineered to digest this GMO stuff ... Monsanto pushed through it's approval at a cost of billions of dollars I think ... cause if you have the 'corner market' on FOOD, you CONTROL much more than just where the public gets there next meal ... ever see the results of the effects of GMO's on lab rats??? ... better not, or you'll be in fear of 90% of the food you're eating now ...

Oh, just so you know, look up the 'cancer rate' increase since the introduction of GMO's in our food chain ... it'll knock your socks off ...

check out 'Consumer Reports'

Ha! It takes alot more to make my eyes roll.....(maybe I've rolled them so much in my life "they're done rolling").

Actually I find this posting fascinating....I am going to go cabbage shopping myself. See if it will take the hair off my chest...just kidding on that one...however, if you guys don't want me getting into all the things we women go through (or at least this woman...) when we ripen, you better watch out because I could really tell you some things you probably don't want to hear about.

Oh, Pappy....you asked if my mom has tried your butters yet----no, yet...soon I hope. I have managed to keep out of them so there would be some to take her. I started to post a pic of them here to let you see for yourself, but if I do that, you are likely to be bombarded by folks who want some of Pappy's Butters.
(Okay...you did post and ask me...so get ready even without a pic...LOL)

Oh me, ... I think we ran 'humblewarriorgirl' off ... Sorry, to her, but I know very little about steroids and their abuse ...

No, I don't think we ran her off. She only put up 1 post, and then disappeared. She probably found a website that had more to offer in the way of advice on steroid use, than what we talk about here, which is about alcohol abuse.
