WHY WE CAN LOSE SIGHT OF GOD

An affluent woman dressed in a tailored white linen dress (from the flax plant) a pair of leather Jimmy Choos (animal) a leather Louis Vuitton Purse (Animal) is meeting her husband at Daniel an affluent French Park Ave RestaurantFirst course shrimp cocktail (animal)maybe a veal dish (young calfanimal) with asparagus(plant) and a vintage red wine(plant).

After dinner her husband.. hands over his credit card (the hunter).

Is there anything wrong with this scenario?...Of course not.. An elegant modern lifestyle.

Man needs to kill to livehe needs to eathe eats dead animals and dead plantsthats the way of life, packaged whatever way you likeThe ONLY difference in eating animals from plants, Live animals can run away

Personally Ive never seen in a high end restaurant anyone taking the time to say Grace or thanking God for their bounty. The environment is too distant from the reality.

Here is an ancient prayerA small tribe emigrating across a land bridge between Asia and North America 30,000 years agoMight not be historically accurate in detail but anthropologists have a pretty good idea about things from cave and wall paintings and the ethos of the times

Dear noble Mammoth who shares the Tundra with us, who rules the steppe and runs the river we thank thee for the gift of thy body. We apologize for having taken thy life and we pray that thou hast left behind many children who will come to us in the future out of respect for thee we make this prayer.

NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE really.. more stylistic.. the first scenario.. In the second the people living on the edge of starvation relied on the animal master for providing the animal so they could live.. Much more poignantthe men the huntersthe women dressed in distinctive animal skins with beads and shells not too unlike todays  tailored costume standards.

I think as we have to a large degree mastered our environment today, as opposed to the rigors of "just survival" by the ancients, and their recognition of powerlessness over just eating to live the conscious awareness of a higher power was always in the forefront of mans early life of providing

I

the reality,I feel, gets lost in todays modern world Just a mythological thought on symbolism

Sounds like a sermon that doesn't even mention the program or alcoholism in any way. But whatever works for you.

To put things in AA perspective (or to spell it out to you)...One chap many years ago once said...what step are you working..I remember that from about 40 years ago...I can ALWAYS answer that by saying the 3rd step...seeking greater meaning of God's understanding as it applies only to me.. It took me 15 years to define a God of my understanding that I found peace of mind with...from that point it evolved.

Having been sober over 40 years...generally by the daily practice of steps 10 -11 -12..I find it incumbent to share my strength..hope and experience.. "This is what I did above..

The most interesting part of my share is the above comments...fraught with critisism and maybe a touch of hostility..I found over the course of my 41 year journey of continuous sobriety..that the above attitudes are KILLERS...They not only close the heart, but they shut off imagination and openmindedness...Critisism is like being in a prison...thought, emotions all locked up. "That too I've come to realize"

To the above critics...read it again with an open mind and reflect again on the 3rd step.... I found before opening an old tight nut...putting some penetrating oil and a little patience work wonders.

If one wants to know more about humility..try reflecting on a list of things you are really powerless about. Try thinking how fragile life is..We kill to eat...we kill to live...and who or what do we have to thank for it.

My Yob as they say in Sweeden(spiritual Job in AA circles) is to pass on the wisdom of my long term sobriety...much gets lost in the translation because many alcoholics are not only too sensitive, but very defensive. It's amazing the critisism I read is generally not based upon fact; but, what I have found in my interpretation less than a healthy self esteem..A term I've developed.."doping..smokin..and jokein" ...a person with not a good personality. .As the term goes in AA "Get honest with YOURSELF"..difficult job..

How this applies I feel is to that part in How It Works..."Some have tried to hold on to old ideas but the result was nil until one lets go absolutely"..Not very easy..so I push it...try to see who is open minded who is not.."It certainly doesn't bother me...It amazes me.. especially someone critisizing something..that they don't even know what I am talking about (LOL).."because it's a knee jerk response to the way they always thought alcoholically.."old ideas." "barroom verbal brawling"

To develop an engaging personality..and I must say... It is better to discipline oneself and keep ones mouth shut , not attack messengers but if you can positively add or correct argument constructively..then fine but no dopin, smokin or jokin.."That's the way you were when you were drinking... How do I know...self examination over a period of many years sobriety..changing old ideas is not easy but MUST be done to remain sober..particularly when hard times roll in and one is tested...I know have been they thus easily recognizable

On the positive side...a few pit bulls who do attack allows me to respond which does in fact I feel, help others who would be too passive or to disciplined to express themeslves..So I could not respond

When 41 years ago I asked JerseyJohn with my high IQ how does AA work...John with a metal plate in his head from a war injury said..."IT WORKS JUST FINE"....As they say in the halls..Keep on coming back..."Youll hear the same thing but your attitude will change (LOL)

Or...instead of deciding other people are too sensitive, defensive, don't have self-esteem....all of which are inventory judgments, you could take your own and see where other's observations may actually apply to you. You spot it, you got it.

I'll repeat what I just said in anotherposting which you may find helpful...passed on to me by my spiritual mentor of many years.

As You proceed through life following your own path, birds will S**T on you

Don't even bother to Brush it Off.

To Thine own Self Be True
