Wanna Drink? Have Your Cake and Eat it Too!

This helped me early in sobriety and I have developed a heck of a sweet tooth.....keep some candy or something sweet near you. When you first are trying to get sober, this is very important....I didn't realize it but alcohol has alot of sugar. Your body misses this sugar when you stop drinking and when you eat a sweet treat you will help calm down those cravings. Now I don't have to feel guilty when I indulge in treats! (I just don't get on the scale as much :)

Now I gotta go find some ice cream and nuts, berries, and chocolate syrup ... and like Ms. Donut up there, hide the scales, LOL ...

When I was first getting sober, I tried drinking a lot of Coke & Pepsi, but the caffeine got to me. So I switched to things like 7-Up but they were just TOO sugary, and the taste became unpleasant after just one of them. Then I discovered A&W root beer, which settled any cravings and tasted great and didn't become unpleasant or too sweet after the first one. To this day, 26 years later, an A&W root beer reminds me of those days in my first months of sobriety.

Oh. I also carried a pocket full of 'hard candy' in the early sober days ... it did, in fact, abate the cravings to drink ... (except in the summertime, I ruined some pants and made a mess in my car ...) ... that stuff is hard to clean up ... so chewing gum worked for a while ... AND going to meetings that have cookies and sweets by the coffee machines, LOL ... (which turned out later to be my 'Home Group' choice, LOL ...) ...

Love you guys and God Bless,

Pappy

Oh Nutty Buddies!!!! That is the biggest one I have seen! I need to write those down on the store list. I just bought a large bag of M&M's Peanut Butter kind--(2) for $3 at Kroger's. They still honor the sale price when you buy only one. I was hoping the plain M&M's were on sale as well. They were (2) for $5....I passed on those and it really is a good thing. I have a hard time controlling myself with them. Maybe I will make up some cookies and put the peanut butter ones in them. Darn! Double Whammy! Guess these are going to make me stay away from those scales even longer.
Pappy---sorry, but I had to laugh at your candy experience. That sounds like something that would happen to me.
