Came away from my home group this morning and on the way home was expressing to my wife the positives of this journey of hospitalization and recovery over the last couple months. I expressed the need during the hospital stay for the need to have AA literature available during the quiet, still times and the problem the dementia caused by erasing memory of such simple usual tools of the steps and traditions and slogans and such. I guess this was much bigger a problem than I was aware. My wife mentioned that we have such a large inventory of AA and Al-Anon literature in our house and that it would not diminish our tools much to contribute to the Hospital Library which had nothing. What do you think? I don't think this huge facility would mind and so we are putting together a cache of literature from both programs to build the AA/Al-Anon section of the library. Believe me I was given so much from within their large staff that this isn't a big deal for such a large Army/Military Hospital. Send suggestions cause I would just love to know that any others like us who would have the need during a stay would have program close at hand. My personal opinion is ... this is a wonderful idea ... I know how valuable the AA & Al Anon literature you have is to you and your wife ... and to donate it to the VA would be a great gesture ... I would only hope that it would be handled with great care ... because this literature is 'priceless' ...
My experience and understanding of the VA system is that it is operated and run by the 'government' which I, personally, don't have a lot of faith in ... so, were I to donate such valuable info, I'd want to speak with the person that oversees the handling of this info ... I'd want to have some amount of confidence that it would be handled with the same care that I showed ... if it is, then a great many other people could receive the wisdom of our past experiences ...

Hello, I think that's a great idea! A lot of people could benefit from your generosity, especially in such a place where this kind of support is needed most. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever seeing AA/Al-Anon literature at the VA where I go. I've just about worn out this old copy of Grapevine, maybe its time to pass it on...!
