Wiling to go to ANY length

Thinking back, I did some outrageous things to drink. I hid my drinking, hid bottles of booze, lied about money spent on booze, got in trouble at work, made excuses or created situations where drinking would be acceptable. I was ashamed of myself. I didn't like myself at all. Getting sober (with help from my Higher Power!), I also did some outrageous things... I secretly went to meetings and lied about where I went, I parked my car and walked a couple of miles to meetings so my husband wouldn't see the miles on the odometer, lied about money I put in the AA basket and told him I got lunch, hid my AA literature, arranged my errands so hitting a meeting would fit in the schedule and I wouldn't be missed. I like myself as a person going to any lengths to stay sober! Now I truly understand what it is to be Happy, Joyous and Free! I'm Happy as a sober person. I find Joy in every little thing...and I'm Free of having to account to anyone except my Higher Power for the things I do. I'm also Free of the burden and shame of drinking. I admit, I obsess on the topic of sobriety. When I wasn't sober, I obsessed on drinking. Sobriety saved me. I'll take another 24!

I think it's good to swap obsessions... a necessary starting place... good for a while, until it's not good anymore. Bad if we get stuck... or get around people who want us to stay stuck in the 'better' obsession. I became ready to let go of obsessing altogether. I believe, it's the natural next step... after the 12th... I had to get through to 12 a lot of times first personally... to see the next step clearly.

Hi Coogi, ... I remember doing the same thing prior to sobriety too ... I hid my stock of booze, lied about where I'd been, about how much I drank, etc., etc., etc. ... got in trouble at work, eventually got a DUI, etc. ... ... ... if my wife asked if I'd had something to drink on the way home from work I'd say 'just two' and lied by 'omission' that I'd really had two 'tall boys' (2 - 40 oz'rs) ...

When I got soooo sick, I became 'willing' ... willing to go to any length, as you said, to get well ... for me, that meant going to a meeting every day, sometimes three, for right at 700 days in a row ... (I was really sick) ...

Thanks for your post, God Bless,
Pappy
