just started campral two days ago and the side effects suck but it has been keeping me sober along with willpower. Does anyone know if the side effects get better with time?

I had a friend who was taking campral after split up with his wife. He didn't let me know about the side effects.
He's back to drinking and is going forward with a divorce.
Good luck with your sobriety. I just celebrated my ten years sober a couple days ago.
I was where you are and I can guarantee you that your life will be better with sobriety. You'll still have problems. Life being life, but the drinking problem can make normal problems explode.
Keep up with your willpower and you'll make it Queenie bee, this is a good place to be, so are AA meetings!!
Hope to see around these places!!
Congratulations on choosing sobriety today!!

Will power was never enough to keep me sober. I do think that the campral added to an AA program would be a good combo for you. That would be like building up an arsenal against the disease. When you add step work, having a sponsor to talk to daily, going to meetings regularly, building social supports....it's a much better outcome. It would have been impossible for me to stay sober just doing the same things but trying to not drink. Even had I done it, my life wouldn't have improved as much as it did when I changed from the inside out within AA.

So, yes, I felt obligated to give that spiel since this is an AA site and quitting on willpower is directly counter to AA literature and philosophy.

I honestly think AA (even Bill and Bob) would have embraced new medical science that could help to combat the disease so yeah...Campral. Usually all side effects of meds lessen at about 2 weeks into taking them. If you have any intolerable side effects, call your doctor pronto or go to the ER. Nuisance side effects might be worth putting up with since drinking was killing you. Nuisance side effects wont kill you.

I agree with PC, no pill in the world could have kept me sober all these years using"willpower". Using it in conjunction with lots of AA meetings would be doable. Willpower never kept one single person I know sober. Please get to a meeting, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Welcome to MIP Queenie bee, ... glad you're here ...

I don't know about meds ... but I do go along with PC ... my 'will power' always worked against me ... I found it best to put faith in the local AA group ...

Take Care and God Bless,
Pappy
