Aloha No MIP Ohana...Hello MIP Family.  I was inspired this morning before going to work by the awesome spiritual input which comes from those who came before us and the fortune to now have their words in print so I can hear them again with my eyes.  How much of a AA literature library do you have.  How often do you go to it for peace of mind, serenity and confidence?  My wife and I have a large library from both programs which contains the voices and thoughts and spirituality of hundreds if not more.

If you have a library see if you can place this offering from the 1978 4th printing from a fellow trudger I El Cerrito, CA.  "I have learned that I can be a good human being, although an imperfect one, that, when I consciously live in the real world (sanity), each good day helps to counterbalance my past.

My religion did not give me A.A., A.A. gave me greater strength in  my religion.  The simple contrast between active alcoholism and active sobriety has helped me to seek, to listen, and to apply the good principles of living, and I am rewarded with much more excitement and joy than was mine before A.A. sobriety.  By accepting this sobriety gratefully, as a gift, and using it willingly, I have become aware of other gifts available to me as a human being.  To get the benefits, I need only ask and then use.

This is the crux of the program and the crux of living;    Acceptance and Action.

The gift of understanding has allowed the simple messages from my parents, my teachers, and my church to take on new meaning and soundness.  With the gift of serenity, I am ready and willing to accept what God permits to happen to me; with the gift of courage, to take action to change the things I can for the good of myself and others.  The gift of wisdom has been given to me so that in personal relationships I may act intelligently and with love or, as it has also been expressed, with competence and compassion.

Now I am trying to grasp the idea of living "inside out."  The Big Book, "As Bill sees it --- the A.A. way of Life," "24 Hours a Day," the meetings, the experiences, the consciousness of change in myself, in my thinking, my choices and my habits --- all of these are spiritual.  There is the spirituality of the A.A. way of life, which simply makes us aware of our individual inner resources.    There is no materialism in A.A. --- just spirituality.  If we take care of our inner needs, our other needs will be provided for.

I have come to believe that the gift of sobriety is what gives value and dignity to my life.  It is this that I have to share, and it grows as it is shared."

Read that before heading out of the house in the morning and see what the day looks like before you start the car.

I will share more from this treasure chest as time comes.   Anyone know the title of the publication yet?

wink

Very nice Jerry.

I was thinking of you when the nasty hurricane was headed straight for the Big Island. I saw that it changed course a bit, but I'll bet that Kona coast still got some high winds. How did Hilo do?

Sooooo  maybe it was your combine thoughts?    Hmmmm  HP giving us the benefits of your intentions!!!  It happens.   We are blessed in that we have two of the highest volcanic mountains on the planet so both Isele and Ana got turned away while trying to come ashore and doing more damage.  There we concerns only along with the awareness that both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are our protectors.   Not taking it for granted...grateful.   smile

And let me tell you, I was very aware of their presence when I was there, especially walking around the lava fields in the park. The Rangers got my attention when they told us how many folks they lose per year and those that stray from the path and their foot / leg goes through the crust into the fresh lava. My Honda Passport barely made (chuga chug chug) up Mauna Loa in 4 wheel low gear. It seem to take 30 minutes to make it the last 1.5 miles to the top. That was 2002, it's probably time to go back.

Come back anytime and we'll spend some time together...share some kaukau (food) and introduce you to the fellowship at AA at the bay which is also in full view of Mauna Kea on clear days and also within 20 feet of the Pacific.  The air gets rarified up at the 10-13k altitude regardless the make of vehicle.   smile

Sounds good Jerry, maybe I can do a combined trip to Lanai and the Big island. Trying to hit all the bigs once.
