Congrats on day two TLC....I'm curious if you've tried quitting before? If so...What are your plans for this time? Have you been to an AA meeting before?

No I haven't really tried and been committed, but it make it easier when it affect my health.  My game plan is to use this site for support.  Get a sponsor to speak with as needed. I have purchase  24 hours, the Black book and one other one.

I'm  taking 1 day at a time to add success as needed.

Thanks 4 asking..

Yeah....Not even my health was enough motivation for me. I drank when I knew it was killing me. I kind of welcomed that. I think I just got to the point alcohol had whipped me. I was beat. I surrendered.

Here is a copy of the Big Book online....It's our text book. The Doctor's Opinion and the first 103 pages contain the directions for the 12 steps. You can read it here if you want. I'd never read anything quite like it. I think they wrote it about me.

 http://anonpress.org/bb/

I'll break it down for you...If you are interested in our solution. That being...The 12 steps.

The Doctor's Opinion and the first 43 pages deal with Step One. The first step.

Pages 1 through 23 deal with the physical craving of the real alcoholic. I don't know if you are one. Only you can decide that. I knew I was. Top of page 23 to page 43 deal with the mental obsession. Our disease centers in the mind.

The next 19 pages deal with steps 2 and 3. That's pages 44 through 63.

Then we have the directions for 6 steps in 20 pages. Steps 4 through 9. Pages 63 to 83.

That leaves 19 pages for steps 10, 11 and 12. With 12 having it's own chapter. These are the steps we live by everyday.

I've tried everything possible to quit for good. I could string a few months together. Then it was right back to it. This is the only thing that ever worked for me. And it's free.

Welcome Ticstuff.

This program will work for you if you follow the same "recipe" that we did. That recipe is the 12 steps as described in the Big Book.

There are a few other things many of us do to stay sober. Some of them are:

Don't drink alcohol.
Go to meetings (often when new, 90 meetings in 90 days)
Get a sponsor. Purpose of a sponsor is to take you through the steps.
In the morning, ask whatever power you think might be out there, for a day of sobriety. Thank that same power at night if you stayed sober.
Read the Big Book (and attend a Big Book meeting once a week because it can be tricky to understand)

and stay in the middle of the boat. If you're in the middle of the AA boat, it's harder to fall overboard. The middle of the AA boat means doing all the things that sober AA members do.

That should keep you busy for a while. (and sober too)

Glad to hear you are doing some research TLC.....It shows willingness. I'm also glad you are feeling happy...Every day we don't pick up we get better. I hope you managed to make it to one of those meetings. I have to say that was the one place I found hope. The proof was in the pudding....I could see that it worked for others. That was all the hope I needed to get busy. Keep moving forward TLC.

If you can control and enjoy your drinking, you don't have a drinking problem and you don't need to get sober.

But if you are like us, you will find that you cannot reliably do that. You either lose control once you start and you end up drinking way too much (maybe not every time, but you can't predict when it will happen), or you start to drink when you don't really want to or when you know that you really shouldn't (like before you have to drive somewhere, or before some event where you really need to be sober) or you will find that attempting to continue drinking, but limiting it to one or two drinks like a normal non-alcoholic person is EXTREMELY difficult and unpleasant due to the sensation of craving, and the stress of 'white-knuckling it'.

If you are like us, you will find that attempting to continue drinking, but forcing yourself to do it the way non-alcoholic people do it, eventually becomes impossible and the drinking escalates once again, and continues to get worse.

If that happens, there IS hope, and there IS a solution. It is sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous.

If you ever decide that you have had enough and that you want to stop drinking, the door to AA is always open and there are lots of people who will be happy to help you get sober, just as they were helped by the people who got sober before they did.

I had made a lot of firm resolutions not to drink again TLC. I came to find out I had the lost the power of choice in drink. No matter how much pain and shame it caused me. I'd drink again. It sucks...To tell you the truth. You get tired of doing what you are doing. At least you know what's available.

Well this weekend was a challenge. I know it's just Sunday a.m., but I have a warden (husband) that would have noticed if I drank. I didn't, I just do not know how I made it. I went to yard sales with my daughter and grandkids 4 5 hours.

Sorry if I bore you, I have made this my support, as I can review all my post and post of others having issues.
warm thoughts and prayer to the world.

You don't bore any of us TLC....I think we've all been there.

Can I ask you a question?...Do you think this applies to you?

If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic. If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer.

BB pg 44

That's an either or....By the way. I happened to fit both of those criteria. Maybe it doesn't....But if it does .....It brings you that much closer to AA's first step.

I'm going to tell you something TLC.....I denied I was alcoholic for most of my life. There was no way that this liquid in a bottle or can was stronger than I was. I was wrong. I didn't have the power to solve this problem on my own. I just got to the point that I had to admit defeat.....It beat me. It was more powerful than I was. I found the power to solve my problem in AA. I became willing to listen to people that had found a way out.....And then do what they did. And they wanted to help me. Amazing. It worked.

If you find yourself getting to that point.....And you want to know how this works......That's what we are here for.

That was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I was introduced to AA there. I studied the book and was taken to my first meeting there with the group. I haven't had to have a drink since. Keep your eyes, your ears and especially your mind open TLC. You can have a new life ahead of you. Sending prayers for strength your way.....You can do this.

ALRIGHT, ... the girl's back in town!!! ... You make it thru rehab okay ??? ...

NOW, it's time to get started ... 'willingness' is the 'key' here ... ... ... if you have the desire, we have the cure ... or you can have all the pain and agony you left behind refunded to you ten-fold ... being the idiot I can sometimes be, I when back for more pain ... I don't wish that on anyone ... stick with us and we'll help you along ... just remember to keep an open mind ... they say the mind is like a parachute, it only works if it's 'open' ... ... ...

Love ya and God Bless,
Pappy

I just joined this forum. I have already found it helpful. I had always been a partier and then three years ago I brought my Mother to live with us with Alzheimers and I had a very stressful sales job. My drinking got way out of hand and I realized in my heart, I had a problem, but I have always been the glue, the rock and held it all together. I then got a DUI.
