I thought about doing hypnosis, Butterfinger. It wasn't for drinking, it was about getting more confident and not being so what I thought was so "me" during that time. A few years ago, I watched this program on a woman who had hypnosis for smoking, and she ended up losing some of her memory. It can be dangerous and I hope if you decide to do that you will research it as well as whoever you choose.
As for me, I found that I am more confident than I have been in ages, maybe ever and I give credit to my HP as well as AA helping to keep me sober. It is not a quick fix, by any means, like what you are talking about, but it is working for me.

Why not? What have I got to lose? Maybe it will help me not be so high-strung. Maybe it will help me get closer to the "psychic change" everyone is always talking about. Who knows, maybe it'll work splendidly and remove all desire to drink.

I'll keep you posted.

That's great BF ... I hope it helps ...

Personally, I think the 'spiritual principles' of the AA program, to be successful, needs to be that of a 'conscious' decision to change, not subconscious ... but what do I know ???

What step is that?

But the Big Book says it is not the only way. If something works for you, that is awesome!

 It also says....

We thought we could find an easier, softer way. But we could not.

pg 58

I know the steps were the easier softer way for this alkie. But hey...Give it a shot...I guess the thing that would worry me about hypnosis...Is every time someone clicked their fingers I'd wake up in a gutter. Good luck to you!

You know what. If you actually can be hypnotized that will say a lot because the ability to be hypnotized is based upon suggestibility. So it will show how much you can and are able to take suggestions which you already identified as a stumbling block for you at times (it is for all of us). To even be able to be hypnotized at all will be a good thing BF. Also, it's just a form of relaxation/meditation in many ways so roll with it and add it to your step 11 practices.

the psychic change I got came from doing what the big book suggests to do.
but hey, if ya wanna try and easier, softer, way, go for it!
AA will still be here.
what if you returned from the hypnotist and every time someone mentioned alcohol ya stripped naked and ran around the block?

PC makes an excellent observation here ... a lot of 'common sense' in his statement ...

and Tom, ... LMAO again, and for that I am truly grateful ... ... ... we need more humor ... to enjoy being alive, not so much for running someone down ... which I don't think was your intention ... least I didn't take it that way ... we simply need to 'lighten up' once in a while ... it took me a long time before I could 'laugh at myself' again, for some of the idiotic things I find myself doing, or saying, LOL ... I think I better stop there, LOL ... ... ... don't want to reveal too much ... huh? ...

onya Butterfinger - we Must use whatever we can .

I was already sober(18mths) when I started using Louise Hay books .

Including  Affirmations , Worked for me    , so well , in fact  a Neuro surgeon

told me to "keep them up as they were the only chance I had of further recovery ,

as medicine could Not help you". I also used a hypnotist at this stage as well , it did

not work for me , would get deep then deeper But could/would not go too deep.

I am Not saying th BB should be changed , there has been a Lot of change in Therapies

& Psycho therapies in th last 50/60yrs , let alone pre war 30s . I have also used them .
