AA meetings in San Francisco/ Bay Area
Permalink

I'm Gonna be staying in the City sat afternoon through tuesday morning. Looking for good AA meetings. Went to a very good one in the Mission in 08' or 09' on 24th and Florida at noon. At least I think it was this one. Would have been a good starting point to ask- really liked that one but don't get in until sat. Willing to travel to other parts of the Bay Area. I called the AA helpline and they were predictably unhelpful. When asked for suggestions for a good meeting she asked were I was staying. When I told her I didn't have a confirmed part of town I was staying in but asked if she could recommend a really good meeting- she said "no just call back when you know where you'll be staying."no

Fine, whatever, I go through this everytime I visit some place new. Usually if someone is visiting were I live, I go out of my way to welcome them, invite them out if there is something going on after the meeting and provide them with info on different meetings- disposition, demographics (old timers, young peoples, beginners/ lots of new commers, social meeting, serious, ect...). Basically the personality and vibe of the meetings- and let them decide.

Where I live I've had the luxury of hitting lots of different meetings and getting to know each ones personalities from big trendy look good meetings to hidden spiritual gems. I usually don't have that luxury wheb traveling due to time constraints.

Some people say that all meetings are good meetings, I'm of the school that disagrees. Maybe they are all good- I'm looking for the gooder meetings.

Thanks,

PS used to do NA almost exclusively when I lived up there but alot of the meetings have changed. Monday Olaf house moved (wonder how its doing in its new place.) 924 Gilman monday night is still there one of my favorites- wonder how that has evolved. But back in the city bike messenger mtg in the mission is gone, 10 PM Capp st gone, tuesday night JCC mtg gone (my old home group). Out in Marin Fri NA midnight meeting in San Raphael gone along with some of my other NA regular meetings.

For AA- used to go to a friday meeting overlooking Mission highschool- on church I think- couldn't find that in schedule.

So please, kindly, looking for up to date info, suggestions, intelligence, whatever you wanna call it

A million thanks, Spun.

Welcome jspun, ...

I know nothing of the San Francisco area meetings ... but I did want to comment on your 'good meetings' comment ...
Every meeting I've ever been to, I didn't drink for that hour ... THAT made it a good meeting ... so I guess you could call
me one of those that say 'all meetings are good meetings' ...

Love Ya and God Bless,
Pappy

PM me your number and I'll pass it on to some men there

Look for "Home Group" on Saturday night in The Mission, awesome, amazing meeting

Look for the Chip Meeting in the Cathedral, the big one, call Central Office, it's HUGE, can't remember what day it is, Saturday maybe

Friday Nights Union and Steiner

Most of the other meetings I went to are in Marin, but I'll hook you up with a guy that's spent the last 25 years doing The City Meetings. Good guy, you'll like him

Andrew

God Bless you too Pappy. Thanks for the welcome Mr. David. Hey Andrew, thanks brother, I got a call from one of your friends. Will touch base with him tommorow- don't want to wake him if he is asleep.

We are all blessed to have a family worlwide.

ps I have alot of biological family up there. I think I'm gonna avoid even though they are not alcoholic.

Rather spend time with my AA family and with my wife and daughter- less stress and dysfunctional dynamics.
