I hate meetings. I hate higher power. I hate anyone who has a program. To all who come in contact with me, I wish you death and I wish you mass suffering.

Allow me to introduce myself, I am the disease of addiction. Cunning, Baffling, and Powerful! That's me. I have killed millions, and Im very pleased. I love to catch you with the element of suprise. I love pretending I am your friend, lover. I HAVE GIVEN YOU COMFORT, HAVE I NOT!!!?..........Wasnt I there when you were lonley? When you wanted to die...DIDNT YOU CALL ME!!!!!. I was there. I love to make you hurt, I love to make you cry. And better yet, I love that when I make you soo F**king numb you can neither hurt nor cry. You cant feel a damn thing. This for me is true glory. I will give you instant gratification and all I ask of you is long suffering. Ive been there for you always. When things were going right in your life, you invited me. You said you didnt deserve these good things, and I was the only one who agreed with you. Together, we were able to destroy all things good in your life.

People dont take me seriously. They take stroke seriously, Heart Attacks seriously, even Diabetes..FOOLS THAT YOU ARE!!, YOU DONT KNOW THAT WITHOUT HELP, these things would not be made possible.

I am such a hated disease, and yet I do not come uninvited. You choose to have me, so many have chosen me over reality and peace.

More than you can ever hate me. I hate every single last f**king person who has a twelve step program. Your programs, your meetings, your higher power; all weaken me and I cannot function in the manner im accustomed to!!

Now I must lie quietly. You dont see me, but I am here, growing bigger and stronger than ever. When you only exist I can live. When you live I can only exist. But here I am.....and until we meet again, if we meet again...I wish you death..I wish you SUFFERING!!.

Sincerely,

Your Disease of Addiction

Excellent thread.  So true the disease wants us to die.  It is a parasite that once in you lives off you and it doesn't care that when you die it dies with you.  Without help there is no hope.

The original version of this was set up more like a poem then a letter. The reason for setting it up in a poem form was a symbolic way of being poetic justice... if you know you are playing with fire... then you will get burned.

And with the strong message of the original please note that adding F-words does nothing to its strength or value. Like John mentions in the sticky above... no one will be offended if we refrain from using cuss words...

Here is the original version

I AM YOUR DISEASE

I hate meetings.
I hate Higher Power.
I hate anyone who has a Twelve Step program.
To all who come in contact with me,
I wish you death and I wish you suffering.
Allow me to introduce myself.
I am the Disease of Alcoholism.
Cunning, baffling, and Powerful.
That's me.

I have killed millions, and I am pleased.
I love to catch you with the element of surprise.
I love pretending I am your friend and lover.
I have given you comfort, have I not?
Wasn't I there when you were lonely?
When you wanted to die, didn't you call me?
I was there. I love to make you hurt.
I love to make you cry.
Better yet, I love when I make you so numb you can neither hurt nor cry.
You can't feel anything at all.
This is true Glory.

I will give you instant gratification and all I ask of you is long term suffering.
I've always been there for you.
When things were going right in your life, you invited me.
You said you didn't deserve these good thingsand I was the only one who would agree with you.
Together we were able to destroy all the things good in your life.

People don't take me seriously.
They take strokes seriously, heart attacks, even diabetes they take seriously-fools that they are.
They don't know that without my help, these things would not be made possible.
I am such a hated disease.
And yet, I do not come uninvited.
You choose to have me.
So many have chosen me over reality and peace.

More than you hate me,
I hate all of you who have a 12 step program.
Your program, your meeting, your higher power:
All weaken me and I can't function in the manner I am accustomed to.

Now I must lie here quietly.
You don't see me.
But I am growing, bigger than ever.
WHEN YOU ONLY EXIST, I MAY LIVE.
WHEN YOU LIVE, I ONLY EXIST.
But I am here.
Until we meet again,
If we meet again,
"I WISH YOU DEATH
AND I WISH YOU SUFFERING" !!

Given the genetics, it does not even die with us, it just comes up again in our lineage (some research suggests that it tends to skip generations). Thanks Steve, and Dave---very powerful.

Great thread!! We all need reminders of how much this disease, hates what we do to arrest it and to help others arrest it from the unavoidable progression it will lead any and all to.....death.
To know that it waits, and waits, for us to forget what we know and stop practicing that which lead us to sobriety scares the heck out of me!!
Again, thanks for the reminder!!

SoberSteve,

Before I got to the part of: "I am the disease of addiction", well I thought there was something really wrong with you. I was going to tell you off, then I realized you were talking about the disease of Alcoholism. Never mind. LOL. Yea, I see where you were going with your post.
That's a cool poem, and so true to. Thanks for sharing.
