Good for You !!
I remember being 5 days sober, it seemed like an eternity.

No rule that says you have to share at a meeting.

However, I would suggest you listen as hard as you can and find somebody who 'has what you want' and ask them to sponsor you. then you will make a new trusting friend and you can share personal stuff with this new found friend/sponsor. It might take the heat off you, help you get some things out on the table so to speak.

Keep up the good work. Get a God , A sponsor, A big book and start working the steps and you will get better, guaranteed. Oh, and dont drink.

Awesome Jerry...just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Do the next right thing and you will be okay. Welcome also Isabella...good decision and sounds like good reasoning.

Great job! Love your attitude. You no longer have to be a slave to booze. The key to the mood swings is moderation. Don't take the bait, don't allow yourself to swing to high and ignore the lows completely. Remember that your body is used to being a chemically induced yo-yo. It's just going to take a short while for the pendulum to come to a stop and reach equalibrium.

5 days, that's great. I will be so happy when i stay sober for 5 days, then 6, then 15, then hopefully forever. I am so tired of being tired even if it is not everyday...i want to feel good everyday...I still have to figure out my triggers.. I cannot deal with going to an AA meeting. I want to see how it works online. Not too much luck so far.

Isabella,I felt the same way about going to an AA meeting.I thought it would be a miserable group of people feeling sorry for themselves ,and trying to make me feel worse about myself than I already did. I was so wrong.
Finding this site was what I needed to get me to a meeting.Going to a meeting is the best decision Ive made in years...
Im way to new to offer any advice except "Please give a Meeting a chance".

You're doing great, Jerry! Dunno your time zone, but it's almost time for bed...another sober day to be grateful for.

I found that staying sober got easier once I started working the steps. The Steps are what turn "abstinence" (which is a bitch) into "sobriety" (which feels great) one day at a time.

Today, my Friend, you remained alive and did not drink. Your objective has been achieved.

Peace and G'night,
Rob

In the first months, just remember to tell yourself that if you didn't drink...you did great that day. Whatever happened during the day, figuratively flush it down the toilet and you will wake up fresh on a new day of sobriety. That is how it worked for me. I found this site after already going to a ton of meetings and getting into AA. Only using this site is a half-measure and it won't keep you sober as great as it is. We need each other in person in addition to here.

Isabella I don't know if this will help you. But going to a meeting is the most comfortable thing to do. All you have to do is sit.....and listen. You will be surrounded by people who are just like you. All you have to do is listen and be comforted that you are not alone in your past life style.

Hey Jerry, that was awesome to see you encouraging Isabella.  You may not think you have much to give, but you have just discovered one of the truths about this program:  Even if you have only a few days sober, you have something to offer to someone with less time than you!  When Bill W. met Dr. Bob, he only had a few months sober and yet he managed to start A.A.

:)

Keep coming back, and CONGRATS on 5 days!

Jerry I see a lot of great changes in you already, keep it up man, 2 more days and your a week in!!!! I have 23 days today and just chaired my first AA meeting...

Isabella, get to a meeting! Once you just do it, it will change your life.. They will all welcome you warmly and you dont have to talk. If they do ask you to share just simply state your name and say "I pass" or "I am not ready to share right now" thats it, trust me you will get hugs and new friends instantly.. I was so scared I went to my first meeting with my dad. You can take a friend or relative for support if its a open meeting. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Jerry, I got to AA meetings and the program through MIP.  It has allowed me to live a infinitely more sane and ever more joyful life.  It saved my butt, my life felt dim and lightless.  I have not a doubt, I would not have been able to continue as I was.  I'm still here, nearly 9 months later, thanks to you and the AA fellowship.  So excited for you.   When I went to post on another thread of yours, I felt I could hardly remember those early sober days.  I know I did it minute by hour by day, and never more than a day at a time.  Still do.  It does shift and change, only for the better.  I hear it in your words. Yeah.

CONGRATS, Jerry!!!!! :) :)

I, too, am on day 5!!! Was thinking of you this morning and hoping that i'd see a post here - and thankfully, I see a positive attitude.

You keep mentioning how "new you are" to the site and to AA and the program etc. As a "newbie" as well, I have already learned a lot from your words, and can appreciate your hard work, your spirit, and your hope.

Sending good vibes your way, today, my friend.

What day is it? It's today. today you decided to stop drinking. Just for today, one day at a time. You worry about getting through tomorrow and wanting another drink that evening.

Forget tomorrow, there is only today. when tomorrow becomes today, then reaffirm that you won't take a drink TODAY. Until tomorrow becomes today, it doesn't exist.

We ALL do it One Day At A time. We all went to our first meeting or are getting pained enough to go to our first meeting.

Go To A Meeting, listen, try to identify, get phone numbers of other women,  go to another meeting, repeat ad infinitum, get a sponsor, work the steps until the steps work you and pick up the phone, don't pick up a drink

I agree wholeheartedly with what BikerBill said. It's a one day at a time program. Don't worry about what happens tomorrow. Work on staying sober today!!

Congrats Jerry and welcome to Isabella.

One day at a time -- all we gotta do is not drink today.

Good sobriety to all.

Steve
