Went to a Big Book meeting last night & someone gave me a copy of an article that intrigued me... google the topic & tell me what you think. I found the article fascinating about Virginia Davis and her discovery of THIQ (short for tetrahydro...) manufactured in the brain. Has anyone else read this and if so .. what are your thoughts? Would love to see what you see!!!
Tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives may be formed in the body as metabolites of some drugs, and this was once thought to be involved in the development of alcoholism.[2][3][4] This theory has now been discredited and is no longer generally accepted by the scientific community.

I apologize, i dont have time this morning to read the article . A couple years ago I did skim thru a print out on the whole 'chemical thick' dealy thingy. I figured it to be true ... I mean Im no scientist, but it made sense to me. Now they are discrediting it ?
hmmm ... well in all reality ,it doesnt much matter to me really. All the research in the world wont make any difference to the plain and simple fact that Im an alcoholic. I know it in my head and heart.
I sure am grateful to know this and am even more thankful for the life changing program of Alcoholics Anonymous where I found a God that I can rely on daily to help keep me sober.
Yes, I know it really doesn't mean anything at the end of the day, but it helps me accept the "allergy" to alcohol thing - I think the theory has value. Bye for now!! Carlotta
Speaking for myself, I am convinced that I have both a physical allergy and a mental obsession. Whether the chicken or the egg came first doesn't matter-- both exist.
I am like a diabetic who craves sugar. First, I must abstain from "sweets." My insulin is working the Steps and my therapy is going to meetings.
